HOBY application The past two summers I have worked as a camper helper at Braeside camp in Middletown, N.Y. In my position I had to be a positive role­ model for the campers at all times, maintain safety for the campers and along with the lead staff I had to make sure that the campers were prepared to participate in the daily camp routines. I also had to establish individual relationships with each camper as well as with the lead staff. I had to put the needs of campers before my personal needs every day. Along with the lead staff I had to oversee the camper’s daily routine of cabin cleanliness, personal hygiene and sleep preparedness. I also assisted with helping each camper develop a sense of independence, improve their ability to work together and, work on helping them understand responsibility. Most importantly I helped the children create unbreakable bonds with each other and create lifelong friendships. I was elected into this position by two school administrators as a result of the leadership abilities I present amongst my peers at school. As a Safety School Ambassador I resolve conflicts between my peers and defuse incidents of verbal and physical altercations prior to them happening by holding peer mediation groups. As an ambassador I also assist with decreasing instances of bullying within my school as well as within my community.During the safe school ambassador training I have taken a pledge to eliminate occurrences of isolation and exclusion to anyone who is being targeted, bullied or who feel
