Do you ever wonder how children are born in poverty or raised? Or like how poverty came upon them? Well, it all starts off with their parents. Some family’s today have parents who are drug addicts, alcoholics, uneducated, unemployed, etc. Those are the type of parents who make it hard for their children growing up, because those factors lead them up to deprivations. In some cases, poverty all starts off from their parents. Parents neglect their children, leaving them with no resources or lack of nourishing. In the book Breaking Night the author Liz Murray, Grew up in poverty. She was a child who was raised by parents that were alcoholics and drug addicts. Growing up poor and without any money can positively impact one's life. They develop some characteristics that help them understand things in life especially allowing them to mature at a younger age. It allows them to try and learn from their parents mistakes and try their best to not fall into the same circumstances as an adult. This isn’t always the case. There are many children in our country who never have the opportunities to overcome the positions that they were brought up in. While some children use this as motivation and created a pathway of success through athletics or education, others ended up succumbing to influences such as drugs, gang violence and anger or aggression built up from their experiences. It’s a common misconception in our country their circumstances don’t matter and that anyone can succeed if the effort is put in. The American Dream brought motivation and a dream of an escape to most children born into poverty, but due to what some of them start off with, these dreams are unattainable. Even though children growing up in low-income households can develop positive attributes such as being able to persevere and work harder, they are still severely disadvantaged compared to children coming from stable households. This makes everything tougher for these children regardless of what they gained from it. This is a real issue that millions of people are currently dealing with. By discussing poverty and how children are affected, it allows us to gain a broader understanding of the issue and that better helps us combat
