Medea
Medea is a powerful female character because she does not sit back and is not pushed around by men. Medea, a play by Euripides, is about a woman who is betrayed by her husband Jason and wants justice. The protagonist Medea, fights the stereotype of women and takes revenge of men who do her injustice. The political issue of feminism affects the play of Medea as a whole by giving her a strong attitude and personality in the play.
Medea is a character who is very extreme. The messenger says she is “so outrageous” and asks, “Are you in the right mind? Are you not mad woman?” to Medea when she causes the King and his daughter’s death (36). The king, Creon, banishes Medea from the city. Medea has revenge on him because he gave Jason consent to marry his daughter. He was burned to death trying to save his daughter. Medea expresses that “ (she) their mother, shall kill them” and she wants to “suffer my children” (41). Medea’s children are shown innocent so it shows her severe personality. Medea exaggerates the idea of feminism by giving her female role the strongest attitude in the play. …show more content…

The tutor says that “Jason neglects his children for the new bride” (4). The reason of all the deaths was Jason falling in love for a new bride. The whole start of the play was Medea figuring out that Jason had cheated on her. The Nurse even says that the tutor should not “bring them near their mother in her angry mood” because she’s “seen her already blazing eyes” because Jason left her (4). The Nurse knew that Medea already had a very harsh temper and that her mom is known for making rash decisions and for having a very angry personality.
