Precious Movie Psychology

The movie Precious is about a girl named, Clarice Precious Jones. The story is set in New York in the late 1980’s where Precious lives with her mother. Throughout the movie Precious is abused physically, emotionally, and sexually abused. It is a very hard story to watch because even though it is a movie, this abuse goes on every day. The story is a small window into the life of an abuse victim, but is remarkably a well written story that shows it is possible to overcome. The story of Precious began after she was raped by her father and had a child. She is in the public school system and she is now pregnant with another child by her father. They kick her out of school and recommend her go to an alternative school program. The movie cuts to Precious at home making dinner for her mother, she immediately throws something at her. Precious has a flashback to her being raped, and then quickly just to a fantasy of her famous in the spotlight. The school counselor ventures out to talk to Precious and her mother at their apartment, to talk about the program. As the counselor rings the buzzard her mother

Rain, who is an advocate for Precious throughout the entire movie. Precious begins to learn more and more at school, but the abuse at home was still going on. Precious soon has her son and when she returns home from the hospital, a huge fight instantly broke out between her and her mother. The mother nearly kills both Precious and her son. Precious breaks into the school and stays the night. In the end Precious is living in a halfway house. She has a meeting with the social worker because her mother wants to reunite. At this meeting her mother breaks down and admits to the abuse of Precious’s father. She also admits that she was jealous of Precious and resented her for the husband leaving. Precious tells her mother that she will never see her again and leaves with both her children in her
