John F. Kennedy will always be remembered for two things― how his presidency started and how it ended. After winning a tight presidential race against Richard Nixon, Kennedy delivered his inaugural address on January 20, 1961. He addressed issues both the United States and world abroad were facing at the time due to rising tensions between nations amongst the Cold War. In the middle portion of his speech, Kennedy suggested what should be done to bring countries together, rather than divide them. He intended to reach citizens of the United States and individuals around the globe to spread a message of strength and hope.
Many sources also credit Kennedy for being a substantial president because he did the best he could in a time of conflict. Kennedy’s presidency is important to American history because he changed the lives of millions of Americans with social reforms and the way he handled the cold war during his presidency. Colman states “in nation's popular memory, Kennedy still commands fascination as a compelling, charismatic leader during a period of immense challenge to the American body politic” to show that in this article Kennedy was seen as a good president. Just like the book Colman thought Kennedy did a fine job as a president. From this source I learned that the missile crisis was a bigger deal then how the book portrayed it.
On October fourteenth of 1890, a new hero, Dwight D. Eisenhower, was born in Denison, Texas (Marc Frey, 2013). Although Eisenhower was born in Texas, he grew up a poor young boy in Abilene, Kansas. As a little boy, he dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player, but little did he know, bigger things were coming his way. After graduating high school, Eisenhower attended school at West Point, which started his love for the military (Marc Frey). At the age of 25, Eisenhower graduated from West Point.
John F. Kennedy won the 1960 US presidency election by a small margin as the youngest and the only Roman Catholic president in history. In the peak of the cold war, Kennedy delivered the most influential inaugural address of all time, in which he inspires and unites people listening, watching or reading his speech around the world. I believe Kennedy successfully establishes his legacy of encouraging people to take positive actions for liberty through his inaugural address with the efficient use of ethos, logos and pathos. Kennedy gradually builds his ethos as a strong yet approachable leader in the speech. As the president of US, Kennedy has an automatic ethos.
Kennedy only used television to spread important speeches to all of America, which he used only 9 times. (American Presidency, 354) Kennedy was also the president during the Space Race with the Soviet Union. Kennedy was the president when John Glenn Jr. became the first American to orbit the Earth. (jfklibrary) When in office, Kennedy face many issues and conflicts. Through all of them he still stayed firm in his peace first policy.
Theodore Roosevelt was a visionary and a great leader. Roosevelt had strong convictions that he applied to his leadership of this nation, and held all of our nation’s values in high esteem. Among many of Theodore’s pursuits, he was an avid conservationist. He wanted to ensure that the beauty and resources of the United States remained intact for every generation to walk on its soil. Many of the national parks we enjoy and the reserves our wildlife inhabit are all products of Roosevelt’s efforts.
The 1960's were an especially tense time with many protests for equality and the ever imposing possibility of nuclear war. In this tense atmosphere, John F. Kennedy accomplished many victories in his time as president. Some of these accomplishments include working toward better international relationships through the Alliance for progress, working towards equality in law, and working to defuse the Cold War. One impact from Kennedy's presidency was the improved relationship with Latin America. He came into the presidency when relations were not good: "US relations with Latin America had been deteriorating steadily in the decade before JFK entered the White House."
Francesca Orr-Yepes Mr. Mesic F-Mod April 30, 2016 The Vietnam War The Vietnam War was a long, torturous, and costly war. America had officially joined the war in the beginning of 1950. They were providing massive military and economic support to France during the French Indochina War, France’s attempt to control Vietnam.
In 1961, John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the president of the United States of America; the youngest to ever be elected. Alongside him stood his beautiful wife, Jackie, who came to be known as one of the most influential First Ladies in our nation’s history. Two short years later, JFK was tragically assassinated, leaving Jackie to carry on his legacy. It was not only his legacy that she carried on, but her own as well. In the short time she spent as the First Lady, she was able to influence the country in more ways than any other.
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton. With each president comes different public opinions, good and bad; were they a good president or a bad president? President John F Kennedy is one of those who gives a warm feeling to many americans. He was the face of optimism, and hope. He was the voice of a new generation.
Kennedy however used different tactics. Truman and Eisenhower both used containment, the act of sending money and supplies to susceptible countries to prevent the soviet union from taking hold and growing, and economic aid, sending money and supplies to poor countries to jump start their economies. Kennedy, however used Military use, the sending of troops and having the country use them for defense and attacking threats, and Flexible response, instead of what previous people did this is taking action in your own way (more on that later), instead of Massive retaliation, the willingness to solve problems with nuclear force, all three presidents used
Born on May 29, 1917, in Brookline, Massachusetts, John F. Kennedy served in both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate before becoming the 35th president in 1961. Looking into Kennedy’s presidency, as far as domestic affairs, he had only a few tangible accomplishments that stood out due to his abrupt end. On the other hand, without a doubt, his administration was seen as a time of a youthful glamour, rising hopes, and dynamic leadership at home and abroad. In 1961, when delivering his inaugural address, he had stated, “The torch has been passed”. In other words, this meant that it is now their turn to establish a new era of American society who will “assure the survival and success of liberty”.

On January 20, 1961, former president John F. Kennedy orated his inaugural address at the United States Capitol. Kennedy’s deliverance highlighted his prospective presidency, enumerating key issues such as: economic expansion, social advancements, and new diplomatic relations. Consequently, it was here, when Kennedy questioned his audience one of the most historically-acclaimed quotes in United States history, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country”. Kennedy, the youngest president our Nation had ever seen, beautifully defined civic responsibility. Civic responsibility lets the individual discover and internalize their own potential and allows the individual to assist others to do the same.
