I couldn't put this book down. It had sucked me into this world of hopeful uncertainty, cliffhangers, and endless amounts of tears. A book recommended to me by a close teacher had, over time, become a huge part of my life. A getaway almost. A place to find refuge. Everything going on in my life seemed to be put on pause when my fingers grasped the cover, flipped the pages, and began reading where I left off. To me, this was the kind of book you could read in the loudest of places and still be able to be totally engaged in, because it had you by soul. Now that sounds dramatic, but that’s just the power of books. The characters become old friends you catch up with at the turn of every page, and the story, a journey you go on together. Katniss would think about her father constantly. The woods behind her house reminded her most of him and the time they spent there. Her father taught her how to hunt, fish, swim. Kat had to make sure Prim was fed, clothed, and had everything she wanted or needed. She was the reason Prim didn't starve to death like make other children in their situations. After my dad moved out, it was just my mom, my sister, Alyssa, and I. And with the large amount of debt that was left on us after the divorce, my mom had to work late most nights. Therefore, it was just me and my sister together most of the time. We slept together at night in our shared room, much like Kat and Prim’s. We were in daycare together for many hours a day after school. We played together, we laughed together, we cried together. When she was little I dressed her everyday before school. Even today I buy food and anything and everything, just for her. Katniss and I coped together with the hardships that comes with being forced to take care of your siblings and grow up a little too
