Education is at the forefront of most new parent’s minds, which is why there is so much pressure on choosing a good preschool. Parents want to make sure that they give their children the best possible start to education, in order to create a solid foundation for success late in life. However, in society today, expectations placed on preschoolers are becoming more demanding, a trend that could have many negative consequences on the development of children. This idea is discussed in the article The New Preschool is Crushing Kids written by Erika Christakis. Christakis interconnects the audience, speaker, and subject as well as uses appeals to logic, emotion, and credibility to craft a strong and effective argument about how preschool has started to place too many expectations on preschoolers.
Both class discussions and chapter 5 in the book “Education the Practice and Profession of Teaching” has allowed me to gain knowledge of historical and current trends in policies and practices that affect early childhood and childhood educators because in the reading the authors speak in depth about social reform with in education, they tell about how policies were created and how they influence our education now for example in the text there is mention of attendance laws that protected children by educating them and keeping them from working. My home state Ohio is known as the Buckeye State which is home to 11,557,808 residents. The state acquired the name from an Iroquois word meaning “great water.” The meaning “great water” is because there is over 40,000 miles of waterways. The residents in Ohio have a name that they are called which is Ohioan. The motto the Ohioans follow is “With God, all things are possible” and the state pledge I salute the flag of the state of Ohio and pledge to the Buckeye State respect and loyalty.
Following the observation guidelines, I chose to use the Pseudo name Jay. This way I am respecting the privacy of the child and the preschool. The preschool I choose to observe at Montrose Discover Preschool. Jay is a 5 years old boy that recently celebrated his birthday. Jay is average height boy, with blonde curly hair, with blue eye color.
1. What information did I know prior to reading information presented within the chapter? Prior to reading chapter one I can remember learning about PL 94-142, This is the education for all Handicapped Children Act, this law was put in place to order that all children with special needs receive service within the public schools. After reading chapter two one thing that I already knew was that everyone has a desire to know if there child is developing at a normal rate. One thing I knew prior to reading chapter eleven was how to conduct and effective parent conference.
There are many aspects of society that can be compared when doing an analysis of three cultures: socio-economic statuses, occupations, fertility rates, diets, religions, economics, and politics are few among many. Education, and particularly early childhood education, is a fascinating topic to study when conducting a comparison because it has elements of all traits and greatly mirrors the values of the culture of that which it is present, “Preschools are sites where a variety of domains, interests, and social actors intersect. Preschool is where child rearing meets education; where the world of parents and home first meets the world of teachers and school” (Tobin, Hsueh, & Karasawa, 2009, p. 2). What happened? In this visit, Johny was absent, and I interact with the rest of the student. It was Friday and after three p.m. The routine was to wake up the children and gave them a snack. Then, they will play indoor and outdoor.
Fuller and Strath (2001) conducted a quantitative research study that examined local populations of early education organizations based on the 1990 household census data to report features of the early childhood workforce nationwide. Multiple economic and regulatory forces shaped the population of early education organizations that operated within states and local communities. The median center-based teacher was 34 years of age, reported having completed some college, and was married. The median family childcare home provider had a high school diploma. Fifteen percent of all preschool teachers in urban areas were African American and 8% were Latina.
The reporting party stated when she drops her child at the center at 7:30AM - 7:40AM the infant has been observed with 1 teacher and seven infants on more than one occasion. According to the RP the additional teacher does not arrive until after 8:00AM. The RP stated all the infants were crying at the same time and that the teacher appeared very overwhelmed. The RP stated that toddlers in diapers were observed mingled with the preschool and school age children. The RP stated when teachers go to lunch the infants are strapped in a buggy and placed in the office while the staff person is performing office duties.
During this developmental interview, I chose to conduct an observation/interview study with my one of my cousin’s child. This child is a 4 year old girl and will be identified as “child K” in relation to her first name. Her parents had no problem letting me interview her, but I had them stay in the same room as us. The purpose of this interview was to observe the child’s physical, cognitive, and socioemotional development. I observed her behavior and gave her several tests to show how well she has progressed.

On Wednesday, March 15th I went to Christ the King to observe a child in preschool. The child I observed was a female and she was four years old. While I was there I observed her physical development, social and emotional development, thinking skills, and communication skills. For physical development, I observed her gross and fine motor skills. Her gross motor skills included her gait, balance, running, and picking up toys.
The school that I attendent to was the child development center. I was looking around the environment where child development is place at really quiet neighborhood. The neighborhood has a lot of tree and not really intersection road. I came in 10/19/17 it was in the morning around 10 am but they had a earthquake drill.
In the Montessori Media centre (2009) they speak of how “Montessori education is driven by an ambitious aim: To aid the child’s development into a complete adult human being, comfortable with himself, with his society and with humanity as a whole. Whereas the traditional approach to education, remains focused on the transmission of prescribed blocks of knowledge, the Montessori approach is focused on giving support to the natural development of the child.” Maria Montessori spoke about how the development of the child between the age of 6 and 12 is a notable time in their life. She highlighted how it is a period of holistic development, which brings out the child’s need for wider horizons, the movement from the concrete to thinking abstractly and the development of the morale. The child is also very interested in socialising with peers.
Blossom Hill Nursery School, an Experience in Infant Education The school of my choice is Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia considering that they teach with a Christian worldview. While I already contribute to my community and my church, having a teaching degree from Liberty University Online will strengthen my Christian values, broaden my knowledge base, and equip me with the skills necessary to impact my sphere of influence. Already a small business owner, my desire is to pursue an early childhood education degree, so that I can own and manage my own infant nursery school. I follow a generation of teachers-- my grandmother, my mother, and my sister. Since teachers do not earn that much money, not much has been saved for my college funds.
