The Renaissance was a rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman culture. There was a renewed interested in classical texts. Key ideas influenced art, architecture, and new inventions. There was a renewed interest in Greek and Roman texts during the Renaissance. The first book was printed in Mainz, Germany in 1455.
Imagine you're in the year 1398, you are painting a picture but it looks all the same as the other ones. You look over at your friends and something makes them stand out. The strokes look different and there is a whole other perspective of the world we thought we knew. During the years 1300-1650 was when the Renaissance took place. The Renaissance was a period of big change when art and literature became popular and many advances were made.
The Renaissance was a period of rediscovery of ancient Greek and Roman cultures. It was made possible by the invention of man named Gutenberg who created a machine were letters can be printed on paper, in a very efficient way and volumes. Books were printed in quantities that spread the recollection of knowledge very fast, both as it related to religion and to cultural knowledge. The most important consequence of the printing press was the spread of cultural knowledge because there was an enormous amount of cultural information to be spread, religious information was already disseminated quite well, and new information that available through the new invention gave way to the advancement of science, geography, philosophy, mathematics, etc.
When translated to english the French word renaissance means rebirth. This is a perfect description of the event. The Renaissance was a time of rebirth for people between the 1300s and the 1600s, in Florence, Italy. A time of education and self discovery. The Renaissance served as a transitional time between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age.
What exactly was the Renaissance? Well I’m glad you asked, the Renaissance was technically a ‘’rebirth’’ or ‘’revival’’ of art and literature, as some people would describe it as, and it had started in Europe around the year of 1400 and had lasted until about the 1700s. The Renaissance was a time of intellectual excitement, when art and literature blossomed and groundbreaking scientific advances were being made. During this period of time large parts of scientific and cultural advances were beginning to develop, and people were beginning to see themselves in a new way. The Renaissance changed man’s view of man in at least four areas: Art, Astronomy, Literature, and last but not least Human Anatomy.
The Renaissance reached to an end in the late sixteenth mid seventeenth century. The churches loss a lot of power and grasp of feeling of independence, human expression and investigation led to envy, treason, murder, violence and theft. But than again the Renaissance were the ones that painted the way to a lot of achievements and inventions in a lot of different areas of culture, society, science, religion and modern day life. A lot more advances were proficient during this era that kept on being increased in value, considered and developed in modern day. The Renaissance had a huge influenced on the establishment America was based on and keeps on effecting how American culture and society exist today.
The Renaissance had an overall huge impact on people’s perspectives of themselves, through art, astronomy, and literature. People changed from being afraid to sin and listening to only the church, believing humans were good for nothing and sinful, to humanist achievers who embraced philosophy and promotion of individuals. When Johannes Gutenberg invented movable type in the 1400s, making mass production of the written word possible, authorities were enthusiastic. Early printers produced Bibles and religious tracts, which were consistent with the values of the intertwined institutions of state and church. It did not occur to anybody that the new invention might be used for heretical or traitorous purposes. Later, occasional tracts appeared that challenged the authorities, but their threat was easily dismissed because, even in the early 1500s, printing was still mostly in Latin, which could be read only by the ruling elite. Most common people were unable to read even their native language, let alone Latin.

Now each person had the opportunity to open and expand their mind and learn about the places and people that lived beyond their boarders. The Renaissance era definitely was a time of rebirth for all countries. The changes that took place then set the stage for the type of world that we live in today.

Printing press developed a different method of producing books. According to woodcut images from 16th century, scribes were writing the books by hand from the dictation of a scholar before the invention of the printing press and after the invention print shops were created for printing books in the mid-1500s (doc 1). Before Gutenberg’s press, monks and scribes were handwriting books with pens in scriptoriums and this took them many months and even years to finish a certain book, no matter is it small or big. The invention of the printing press was an advantage for creating books, because it facilitated the creation of books and took less time for the production. It made possible the creation of thousands of identical copies by pressing one button instead of handwriting them for years.
