Prison Mission Statement Analysis

The goal of a prison system should not include degrading and demeaning prisoners. When anyone degrades or demean anyone a positive response is usually not given in return. Working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice it is included in our mission statement what we are there to do. Knowing this statement is a requirement to pass the academy. “The mission Of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is to, provide public safety, promote positive change in offender behavior, reintegrate offenders into society, and to assists victims of crime.”
Notably, with that statement we do have officers that do not stand on the mission. They are there to demean and degrade offenders. Which-in-turn causes more strife with in the workplace. Officers are being speared, shanked, dashed, flooded and burned on. This is what they call “poking the bear.” When an officer denies then food or a shower it can become hectic for that officer or the next officer on that specific run.
Unfortunately, these men may have been demeaned and degrade all their life and many will return to society. If we are in a line of corrections, we must do just that and correct their behavior through restorative justice. There are many …show more content…

Pogorzelski, Wolff, Ko-Yu, & Blitz, (2005), gives notice to the “Second Chance Act.” This act was to prevent recidivism. Giving these offenders a second chance through rehabilitation and promoting positive change is how it help ex-offender become a better part of society. We as Americans do so well at giving the wealthy a second chance why not the poor. We all know if they cannot find a job the recidivism will be great. We should always seek to encourage those who have done wrong as we seek encouragement for ourselves as
