Do homosexuals really want to get married or is it just because they want equal rights? Thus, beginning the years of debate over gay marriage. In order to get the best overall concept of this debate it is important to discuss both sides of the argument, regardless if you are for or against gay marriage. Over fifty years ago, almost every state found it to be a criminal offense to be homosexual and American Civil Liberties Union did not object. Openly gay men and women were not allowed to serve in the US Military, they could not hold a job in any Federal Agency.

Gay marriage has slowly become a factor in today’s culture, and leads the discussion of homosexuals having the right to marry. The conflict from the opposing gay marriage may say that gay marriage can destroy the concept of marriage. Some say that everyone has the right to marry regardless of gender or sexual orientation, thus it should be socially acceptable.
