The causes of the Progressive era were unsafe working conditions. The progressive era was trying to progress forward and make things better and safer. One very important thing the progressive era did was make working conditions safer and that is what ida tarbell did for the standard oil company. The progressives, wanted to create a society that acted as one. The idea of being an individual was something to be forgotten in order to create a more perfect civilization of order and pureness. During this time of the progressive movement, the rest of society began to reject it ideology of their message and goals of nonpleasure and work. One such reform called for an end to the convict lease system in 1914. This was a success for the Progressives because it ensured a more fair treatment for prisoners (341). Unfortunately, a failure of the Progressives would be their inability to help the handicapped citizens of Texas in 1910 (341) before the creation of the Austin State School in 1915, which was an institution for the mentally retarded (348). The Progressives were also successful in supporting equality for women and their rights when they allowed married women to own and control their own property instead of their husbands owning everything (336). Overall, with very few failures, the Progressives were relatively successful in creating reforms for females, and education, and working conditions.
However, society did try to address some of the problems during the Progressive Movement. For example, when Jacob Riis studied the poor tenements and wrote a book about it for people to see and realize what condition poor people were living in causing the government to build new tenements and new rules. Furthermore, John Spargo also wrote a book but to convince Americans to help protest in order to get clean milk for the health of babies and children. This made a big change in child labor and the control over the pasteurization of milk. Additionally, children would not only start working at such a young age but would also be in danger during work.
Between the 1890s and World War One, reform efforts started taking place by the progressives. The progressives were not a single unified group and even had some contradicting goals. They were middle class urban dwellers and some were women. The progressives wanted to end prostitution, Americanize immigrants, antitrust legislation created, women’s suffrage, and the start of prohibition.
The progressive era changed the face of America it impacted so well to today's society. Without the women's suffrage and everything that happened today's society would not be the way it is. The main thing that happened in the progressive movement was eliminating corruption in the government. The progressive era was around the 20th century. Without the progressive era our society would be so different.
Jane Addams The Progressive Era, 1890-1920, accomplished great change in the Unites States of America. Many reformers and activits demanded for change in education, food and drug policies, and most importantly the govermenet. The goal for the movement was the purify the nation. One of the main activits during this time was Jane Addams. Jane Addams is often refered to as a social and political pioneer.
The progressives were successful in meeting their goals of reforming the United States socially, politically, and industrially. Progressives were average people who attempted to solve problems. There were many progressives for a wide range of problems. Progressives assisted in revolutionizing the United States and achieving justice for many Americans.
During the progressive era, progressive reforms were mixes of successes in the area of urban life. Reformers believed that urbanization was the root to many social problems, so they worked to fix them. Some of their reforms worked well, whereas others did not. They worked hard to improve conditions in the cities after seeing the poverty, filth, and crime that occurred mostly between 1890 to 1920. Progressives were mostly successful in reforming urban living conditions.

It was a response to the social and economic challenges brought about by industrialization, urbanization, and immigration. Progressives believed that government had a responsibility to intervene in the economy and society to protect the right of workers, consumers, and other vulnerable groups. Progressives were also concerned with moral and cultural issues such as Prohibition, which sought to reduce the harms associated with alcohol consumption.
During the progressive era our country faced many problems. The rise of substantial businesses caused industrial problems. Women suffrage, alcohol, child labor, and safety issues caused social problems. The necessitation of citizens in government decisions also caused political problems. Progressives were people who wanted to solve all of these quandaries.
After the Civil War, our country was battered and beaten, but it rebuilt itself over time and spread its policies, as well as manufacturing practices, throughout our country. Early in the 20th century, members of our nation started to look at some of these practices and policies and began to question their merit and whether they assisted our population or not. Many people were involved in the progressive movement in America from the presidents to a slew of popular authors and photographers. The one thing that they had in common was that they saw problems with how various industries in our nation performed that they knew needed to be fixed. They did not always agree on everything, such as immigration, but they always had the nation’s best interest at heart.
Some of these advancements included urban problems such as working conditions, slums, and poverty, political corruption, economic problems, injustice and social issues affecting people, and the morality of Americans (Fagnilli 26). The poor received a lot of those problems. Some of the problems were poor work conditions, child labor, and unsanitary living conditions that might have caused an increase in crime and drinking.
