An undercover investigation is discovering information based upon the actions of a human agent. In order to be an undercover investigator you have to be an agent or, he or she is a sworn in police officer. The undercover investigator must provide the information to the police officer to the criminal environment. An undercover officer often uses hidden videos and audio recorders and location tracking devices to catch the suspect. The presence of an active investigator who can influence the suspect to course an even to set the investigation apart from being more passive which means the undercover investigator will secretly gather information on the suspect. According to Charles Sennewald in (The Process of Investigation), a sting is a very common undercover investigation tool designed to catch a person in the act of committing a crime. The intelligence undercover will be in charge of the preventive or facilitative. The police will know that there has been a crime and they will seek and learn the identity and location of the suspect. The anticipatory intelligence undercover is more diffuse because they are open ended which involved more of effort to learn about the events that occurred along with coming up with a prestigious plan to obtain suspect. The benefit of an undercover operation gives the management an accurate picture on what the action on a day-to-day basis. The law does not really know what to suspect what is going on with the line units because the law relies on the supervision to advise the officer.
