Methods of inquiry is part of the Scientific Method and can help to reconstruct the past as well as bring up some good questions in order to find answers. The Scientific Method is a prestigious set of methods that can be helpful in order to begin a crime scene as well as be a part of the reconstruction phase that would be going on. As we look at the methods within the Scientific Method we can see we have, hypothesis, theory, analysis, classification, inductive and deductive reasoning. This helps bring insight into being able to divide methods into two different categories; those that reconstruct the past and those that discover or create new knowledge. One method consists of historian, archeologist, epidemiologist, journalist and criminal …show more content…
There are many steps to being able to reconstruct the investigation; must interview people who may have saw what happened or is a victim of what happened, must record all and any documents that may be part of the case even if we think they may not be helpful we need them anyways, collect any physical evidence even if it doesn’t seem important at that point in time. As the investigator we must begin to study all the information in order to reconstruct the past to gather a better insight into what may have happened and what may have occurred. So let’s say in a murder we must get all the evidence we can from the crime scene such as blood, fingerprints, any impression that may have been left in the blood, we also want to get any witness statements of what they heard or saw, and we would want to see if there was a kidnapping letter left behind. Now, when collecting information, the investigator also needs to question the victim, any person seeing what happened, the suspect, and any other person related to the crime. In the ancillary disciplines the investigator needs to be able to use multiple techniques to be able to get answers that will be helpful rather than the misleading ones. They must find ways to communicate with victims that may be scared or can’t remember what had happened and when that comes up they need to be able to know how to react and interact with them. They must also gather any surveillance that may be nearby in case something may have caught the attack or crime on video. (Osterburg, W., J., Ward, H., R. (11/2012).
