Critical thinking, what does it mean to you when you hear that word? It can mean a few different things depending on the person’s perspective. The book definition of critical thinking is a collection of skills we use everyday that are necessary for our intellectual and personal development. Doesn’t this definition make it sound completely different from what you had in mind about what critical thinking means? The wording may change, but critical thinking would still mean the same thing even as an investigator. This means developing questions and finding answers to those questions. Critical thinking can be used at every stage of an investigation, from the beginning of the crime to preparing for court. Critical thinking causes you to ask, "What's missing?" and then leads you towards finding that missing gap of information. It means you constantly question the current information and the facts of the case in a way that allows you to understand it better. The first method is critical thinking, which carries about six steps, it starts from central issues and follows steps by finding evidence, evaluating, then lastly finding what data is supported toward solving the case. The next method is the scientific method, which means solving a case is like doing science project where you have a problem, hypothesis, and data. Then you interpret the data, if it proves your hypothesis or not, then support it with data, and lastly is conclusion, which is putting your findings together. The last method is criminal investigation, which is more focused towards crime, like what crime was committed and then how. Then if there's any suspicion toward any suspect they look for evidence; physical evidence, interviews, and the crime scene. Next is reviewing and evaluating the evidence, questioning what's missing, and seeking for more evidence. Lastly all evidence comes together to find the probable cause, if not you continue on searching for evidence. These are three different methods that used to solve a case while using critical
