Critical thinking can simply be defined as looking at an issue in an objective and analytical manner before making a conclusion or a judgment. Teachers in school always work very hard to ensure that students can develop their critical thinking skills and understanding it requires extra teaching mechanisms. Measures should be put in place by teachers and school management to ensure students are able to become strong critical thinkers and to become problem solvers in the community and in the work place. Critical thinkers have particular traits they can be identified with, and this trait helps define a critical thinker. They have special behavioral traits that are instilled through the learning process which helps them understand and solve problems objectively and rationally.
Critical thinker’s traits
Critical thinkers have special traits as identified in the Delphi Research Report and by Paul and Elder in their Critical Thinking Foundation work. Both research works provide an outline of traits for critical thinkers that help them understand and deal with issues in an objective way. Some traits are similar in both while others are different.
Delphi research report
This research report was prepared by Peter Facione of Santa Clara University in the year 1990.He outlines various traits for ideal critical thinkers. The report says that critical thinkers are inquisitive in their day to day life. They are always curious to learn and understand the environment they live in (Facione, 1990). The more inquisitive one is, the more one can learn things.
