Victims Before and After Crimes
The importance of this paper is to inform people of what the profile of a victim is (Hayes, &
Jeffries, 2015. The objectives of the website National Crime Victimization Survey, The Routine
Activities Theory, crime victims and some of their characteristic, the victims of different crimes’
characteristics, and statics on the rise and fall of crimes for 2013-2014 (Bureau of Justice,
2014)(Myers, Myers, & Samaha, 2010)(Department of Justice, 2014). There will be a lot of

Do not put oneself in a position to be a victim. Such as out late at night,
flashing money around, putting up with being abused, watch out for people talking about killing
people, hanging around criminals, and youths not having adult supervision (Myers, Myers, &
Samaha, 2010). Of course, one can not always avoid crime, but one can reduce their chances of
being a victim.
Now look at the profile of a victim. There are quite a few characteristics of a victim of
domestic violence. Some of those are low self-esteem, insecure and anxious, they tend to have a
submissive personalty, they may also feel like they are inferior to other people, may depend on
other people (emotionally and financially), do not feel like they deserve respect of other people,
may have unrealistic expectations, may have feelings of a need to be controlled or protected by
other people, do not stand up for themselves, and will not or have trouble saying no to others and
setting boundaries with people (Hayes, & Jeffries, 2015). There are more characteristics of a

The stranger
violence is higher than intimate violence in all three years (NCVS, 2005, 2013-2014). In 2006
NCVS says that the victim and offender has some sort of relationship with each other (Myers,
Myers, & Samaha, 2010). There are more property crimes in the U.S. than violent crimes, and
most violent crimes are not committed with any kind of weapon (Myers, Myers, & Samaha,
2010).
There are three primary goals of NCVS and that is to obtain detailed information about the
victims and what is the consequences of the criminal act, to estimate the amount and different
types of the crimes not reported to law enforcement, and last to supply a uniform gage of the
selected crimes (NCVS, 2015).
The act of 1984 for victims of crime (VOCA) is the federal legislation aimed at helping out
crime victims, and helping compensation for crime victims other than just the punishment the
offender receives (legal dictionary, 2016). There is also programs, in some states, that is a
victim-witness assistance like personal advocacy, referral, restitution assistance,
