Unit 7: Promote Person-centered Approaches in Care Settings 1.1 Explain how and why person-centered values must influence all aspects of health and adult care work. Person centered values are principles that all health and care workers should encompass in all aspects of their work these values are. Respect: all service users who are receiving care should be treated with respect in all areas such as views, opinions and choices they wish to make. Dignity: all service users receiving care should be treated with dignity. Independence: all service users receiving care should be encouraged to be as independent as possible and continue to do as much as they can for themselves. Individuality: all service users receiving care should be able to maintain their individuality by been able to choose what they were, who and when they socialize, the activities they join in with and maintain their own views and opinion. Choice: all service users receiving the care should be able to make their own choices from little things like mealtimes to when they get dressed to when they get out of bed but in different circumstances such as limited mental capacity sometimes choices can be made for them, but these are always in the best interests of the service user. Care staff have a duty of care to ensure the safety of individuals they support; however, individuals also have a right to make their own choices which can lead to dilemmas. The risk assessment process can be used to support individuals to understand the possible repercussions of their choices and put measures in place to reduce or eliminate these risks this can help individuals and staff to have a positive attitude towards risk taking and to promote their strengths and abilities.
