Propaganda is a dangerous tool
Misleading, dangerous, and influencing are three words to describe propaganda. These concepts are emphasized through Animal Farm by George Orwell. For instance, when Squealer persuades the other animals that the pigs need all the milk and apples for themselves to preserve their health since they are the brain workers. Without them, Mr. Jones would come back so it is for their sake that they have to eat it even though some dislike the milk which ensued to not be true. The pigs mislead the other animals into accepting they require it when they do not. The pigs just demanded the milk and apples all to themselves. Half-truths are a propaganda technique that can be dangerous. The information is not the whole truth, only part of the statement is and it is commonly presented as the whole truth when, in reality it’s missing some important information. In Animal Farm the author illustrates how Squealer was telling half-truths to the other animals about Snowball. Squealer was telling the other animals that Snowball sold himself and is planning to take away the farm from them. At that point, Squealer persuaded them that Snowball was working with Jones from the beginning. Stating that newly discovered documents were found that proved Snowball being a secret agent working for Mr. Jones when in reality Squealer was just lying to them (Orwell 79). The reference expresses how Squealer had been using half-truths to convince them that Snowball betrayed them and discovered with the documents. What, in fact happened was that Squealer made up finding documents incriminating Snowball as a spy. The reference holds importance because demonstrates how not saying the whole truth can influence others into understanding a different point of view. Therefore, withholding important information can be dangerous and used to convince others to believe a half-truth is a truth when they do not know if the information is
