Propaganda is the deliberate spread of information, ideas, or rumours to harm a person, group, movement, or even nation. I have created a piece of propaganda that was inspired by Cory Doctorow’s book, Little Brother. In the book Little Brother, the main character, Marcus, rebels against the government when he realizes that it has been spying on him and other innocent people in an effort to catch terrorists. In my propaganda poster, I will be addressing the real life problem of privacy and surveillance. This piece of propaganda includes pictures of the NSA tapping into phone calls and the United States’ seal looking into AT&T’s system. These pictures are political cartoons. Political cartoons are intended to explain to the average citizen what is happening in a humorous tone. Ethos is a person’s credibility. I used this in a somewhat reversed manner. The government is an organization that many trust. I included a quote about the government owning up to its acts and ending the law that allowed the NSA to collect phone records from companies. The intended affect of this quote was to show that the government, which we all trust has actually taken and analyzed our phone records. I then used the appeal of logos. Logos uses logic to persuade the audience. I used logic by including a quote about how many times the NSA cross referenced our phone records to catch terrorists but to no avail. The last appeal I used was pathos. Pathos uses emotions to persuade the audience. Throughout the poster, I reiterate how we were cheated by the government and that too with no profit. By using these three appeals in my poster, I was able to convey a clear message the audience would be persuaded
