Passing gun control legislation that creates a universal background check and gun database system as well as passing mental health legislation that improves the health care system’s protocols and policies for assisting people with mental health disorders and that enacts counseling programs in communities and schools will decrease the likelihood of mass shootings in schools. The United States is bitterly divided. Issues of great concern, such as the rise of mass shootings, are partisanized. Both sides of the debate will not comprise or listen to what their opponents have to say. Groups from both sides can only agree that one innocent life taken from gun violence is one too many.
Society as a whole has become less and less violent. Since 1991, reported crimes committed has dropped by almost double (Statista.com). Many people blame the AR-15 for most of the mass murders in America, and ask for the “assault” weapon to be banned. However, many details of the gun are skewed. In an article written by Margot Sanger-Katz of The New York Times, she stated that of all the gun deaths in America, 60% were suicides; and even more contrary to belief, nearly double of the mass killings (4 or more deaths) were with handguns instead of rifles (statista.com).
In this world, there are too many people that have died from guns. Some of them have died in large-scale attacks, some of them were in a gun accident. Many want more gun control laws to be passed. In fact, the gun control law must be passed through, because this can be more effective to protect people. people always thinking if they have a gun, they can protect themselves.
The law is never something to take lightly especially when the specific law is set in place to prevent the loss of human life. Gun control laws have a basis set by the federal government and are expanded upon by each individual state as they deem fit. Federal gun laws and state gun laws have their similarities and differences, but both are set in place as a barrier of protection against those who could cause bodily harm to others if equipped with such power that a gun holds. The U.S federal Government has its own set of regulations concerning firearms and the state of California builds upon them to create a stronger gun policy, meaning both sets of codes and regulations have similarities and differences, but no matter the differences, these laws are set in place to prevent massacres like the Las Vegas, Nevada shooting, and while California gun laws are built upon federal laws, they can be improved for a safer more controlled environment. Gun Control: an Argument Dating Back to Before 1776 The debate of gun control dates back 100s of years,and many people want to ban guns so that no one can have them. That statement is complete ignorance to what really goes on. The debate has many different viewpoints with some being as radical as banning guns to create a false sense of Utopia. The recent rise of school shootings has set off a spark of gun control debates that make little sense.
Criminals don’t follow laws. Gun control laws are more oppressive on citizens than criminals, which is literally someone who has broken, or is breaking, a law. Why are some gun control laws and rulings so heavily pushed? Especially considering that the majority of these laws have very little actual basis aside from the “guns are scary and bad” train of thought. This is going to be going into why most of these laws, current, and proposed, make no sense such as the Magazine Capacity bans that some states are putting in place, the entirety of the National Firearms Act of 1934 (NFA), and the 1994 Assault Weapon Ban(AWB).

Some days crime rates are up and then the next they are down, what we do know is that America is becoming safer. In 2005, 11,346 persons were killed by firearm violence 477,040 persons were victims of a crime committed with a firearm, (National Institute of Justice). Surprisingly, a lot of gun violence in America is related to self defense. Between 1987 and 1990 it was found that guns were used in defense during a crime incident 64,615 times annually. This equates to two times out of 1,000 incidents (0.2%) that occurred in this time frame.
The gun debate is a long standing one that is expected to go on for many year. Both sides of the debate have their own ways of solving the argument and each side believes they are the right way to solve it. Pro gun and gun control supporters both have methods to reduce numbers of deaths and incidents, some may work and others may not, but all sides of the debate must look at America as a whole. The population and diversity of America creates so many different ideas and beliefs throughout the whole country. The differences between each side of the country leads to regions deciding on one thought that breaks up states and the country.
In this day and age, gun control is a major debate. Many believe that guns should be banned due to gun violence, but is that absolutely necessary? However statistics and historic documents like the Second Amendment, show evidence against gun control advocates, proving that guns should not be banned in America due to gun violence.
The Current Debate Over Gun Control The United States of America is a nation which consists of a broad range of different peoples and ways of life. Along with this entails varying values, beliefs, and opinions. It is virtually impossible that all citizens will ever unanimously agree on a given issue. The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.

Guns are just a tool, like knives and hammers and it completely depends on the people on how they use it. People who support guns and arms say that the Second Amendment secures individual’s right to carry guns with them and that gun rights is needed for self-protection, and was intended for military to have peace and defend the country if needed (Spitzer, 70). Most of the Americans use guns as a source to protect themselves and they believe that gun ownership prevents crime. A study conducted on November 26, 2013 showed that bans on weapons did not significantly affect murder rates at the state level (Lane, 5). Moreover, even if the rules and regulations are executed on gun control, not all criminals obey the law.
