Are we over medicating children who have ADHD? In this day and age many children are between the ages of eight and twelve are being diagnose with ADHD. But the biggest issue is that researchers are saying that Americans are being over medicated with ADHD medications. Most people say yes, but why do people say we overmedicate people with ADHD. Don’t people realize that may be its not that it’s not that we are over medicating these people maybe is that they haven’t found there tolerance for how much of a dosage they can take. In my research I will talk about how critics say that ADHD medications are over prescribed, alternative treatments, and the misdiagnoses of ADHD can affect children with ADHD. The reason for this is because medication is the first solution that doctors suggest to their patients. Many say that people with ADHD need emotional support, and also need help making decisions in critical moments. Jocelyn block says that “parents are a big influence on their children who have ADHD “(Help.org). Making sure that your children are eating a healthy diet, getting enough exercise, and also making good choices daily can help children who show symptoms of ADHD. As stated already there are many other alternative treatments that can help people with ADHD. For example getting enough sleep, and making sure you getting proper nutrient. Physical activities may also reduce symptoms of ADHD. As stated in help.org “team sports such as football, basketball, gymnastics, dance, and martial arts are good for people with ADHD” (help.org). As you can see there many other treatments that can benefit people who have ADHD. If U.S. citizens use these alternative treatments children that are being overmedicated with ADHD medications will be able to reduce their symptoms ADHD.
