While I was thoroughly committed to the extracurricular activities, I have decided that my academic career was the best way to focus my abilities in order to reach my goal. Doing well in all of my IB classes has been my number one priority. With education being my number one priority, I strive to maintain a high grade point average. At the beginning of the junior year, I struggled with finding a manageable balance between all my activities. My GPA dropped due to my struggles in the beginning of the year.
As time went by, I realized how important it was to have good grades. Because of this, I was able to start focusing on getting recruited by a school that had my academic interests in mind.
While these were common struggles I was also finding difficulty in figuring out what I wanted to do. I entered UCI as a Psychology and Social Behavior major and with advices from other people I was pursuing Pre-Med as well and I started taking chemistry and biology classes. However, I was quick to find out that these classes were not for me which was reflected in my grades in those courses. Even though the initial couple of months were difficult, I found what I was passionate about which were the criminology classes that I began to take.
The Rise of Ronald Reagan and Republican Conservatism Conservatism and liberalism are two of the most dominant political philosophies and ideologies during the post-Enlightenment era (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy). As an ideology, conservatism served as a blueprint in the society which promoted the idea of retaining traditional social institutions, beliefs, cultures and discourage social changes. Although the United States of America during the present day promotes liberalism, there was one portion of the country’s history that conservatism was promoted due to several factors. This paper examines the very factors which gave rise to conservatism embodied in the candidacy of Ronald Reagan.
An issue that could arise is a major adjustment in my study habits. Currently, my study habits may not be disciplined enough to achieve the grades I desire on a college level. Although this awakening might be harsh, it would force me to develop proper habits, preparing me for college two years in advance. Although the preparation that the Ohio State Academy would grant me is a strong reason to attend, the primary reason for my application is its intrinsic value. Although my high school offers a solid catalog of AP or CCP courses, the classes offered do not allow me to further my education in my fields of interest.
I have learned a lot from this painful process. This experience gives me a valuable lesson about how should I do when I facing the difficulties. My freshman year of high school was difficult for me to adjust to and I did not perform to the best of my ability on my biology honors midterm. Due to this discrepancy, I was unable to be accepted into the Science Honor Society in junior year. Although disappointed that a singular grade had the ability to decide a part of my future two years later, I continued to work hard, especially in my science courses. Junior year, I decided to challenge myself and take an AP Physics course, even though I had never taken a physics course prior. This class was excruciatingly demanding and a new experience for someone who had never taken an AP class before.
During the start of my Nursing career, my mother was unhappy given the fact that I was going to study a difficult major. She was uncertain if I was going to be able to handle it. She wanted the best and easiest route for me. Although, I did not want the easiest route. I was determined to work for something that I am most passionate about.
My reason to attend Penn State University, Abington, in the fall of 2016 was based on the opportunity that was given to me to explore the area around Philadelphia and to transfer to Penn State University, University Park, within the next two years. Even though I stressed about studying SAT and ACT, writing college admission essays, and balancing my school work at the same time, I was not excited about going to a college as much as my peers and friends were. For me, college was simply an extension of a high school, and it is something I regret and wish to change. Pursuing a career as a nurse has been my primary goal since I was a child. I have been doing a lot of things that would help me get in and do well in the field of nursing in every way possible. Due to the extensive amount of my academic and professional work experiences, I am assured that I can do better than most people with the same goal. There are so many high schoolers who do not really think about what they’re going to become until the last minute. Unlike them, I have decided to take as many health and science related classes as possible, that would help me increase my academic experiences and be ahead than most students.
Every obstacle I faced so far was different mentally and physically, and I know for fact that there is more to come, but I am grateful for them because I used it as a self- motivation. I don't only want to achieve my goal, but become the best at what I do. In conclusion, I had long term dream of becoming a doctor. Becoming a doctor is my passion, being able to help other people is what I desire,helping them with their health. I have had so much obstacles, people discouraging me, even financial issues.
I made sure to start this semester off on the right foot by planning by days out better, avoiding distractions, and not taking on more responsibilities than I can handle. I am focusing this semester on improving my GPA, because it is important to me to graduate above a 3.0 and do well in my classes. Everyday I think about that grade I received, but I won’t let it define me. I messed up, and there is no one else to blame. I know that at the end of this semester when I receive that improved GPA, I can look back at how hard I’ve worked and revel in the pride while looking forward to my continuing success at UW
Obstacles that I will have to overcome consist of getting into medical school, finding a job and obtaining insurance so that I am able to continue to work in the cardiology field, and being away from my family for long hours. Getting accepted into medical school will be the biggest and most important challenge on my journey to becoming a cardiologist. This would be the biggest challenge because there will be other applicants in competition to get into school just as I am in order to become a cardiologist. Even though I am known to be one of the smarter ones at my high school, having better grades, or even a better work ethic, I am sure there will be others with these same qualities or even better, that I will be in competition with. My gpa was fine but my PSAT scores were slightly lower than the requirement. The good thing about the program was that even if you didn’t meet the requirements they would still consider you for the spot. Excitement could not describe exactly how I felt when I heard that exception. I thought, “Maybe I had a chance! Maybe I could show them I had potential”.
