Hi everyone, My name in Oscar E Hermosillo and I am from the NAU-Yuma nursing program. I have lived since I was 7 years old in a small town called Somerton which is roughly about 10-15 miles south of Yuma. My goals for future nursing practice are kind of up in the air right now.
I began volunteering at my town 's nursing home in high school. Initially, I volunteered as an arts and craft aide, coloring and drawing with the patients, but soon after my sister I transformed that time slot into a performance hour, doing our gymnastics, hip-hop, ppm, cheer, and kickline routines for the patients. It was very rewarding to see the patients smile in amazement and awe and also knowing that they looked forward to seeing me each weekend. At the same it was sad to see familiar faces disappear. After I acquired Home Health Aide certificate in the summer of 2013, I was able to help physically care for the patients.
Even though, I have volunteered for many individuals and organizations, one of my most memorable activity was as a young girl, supporting the elderly in an assisted living home. I adopted the elderly and spent hours encouraging them. My exposure goes back to my childhood. My personal physician is a rural osteopathic physician from KYCOM. .
My career goals include earning a Doctorate in Nursing and becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Researcher. My time as a psychology major has equipped me with the skills and experiences needed to acquire graduate training and work toward the achievement of my professional goals. As a nurse practitioner, I will have to evaluate patient outcomes, assess risks, and make medical decisions. I believe I can master those responsibilities effectively by using the critical thinking and analytical skills that I have developed as a psychology major. Nursing Management The first problem for this patient is disturbed sensory perception related to Schizophrenic Disorder as evidenced by auditory hallucinations. Short-term goals for this problem would be that the patient will be able to verbalize the efficacy and potential side effects of at least one of her medications. Nursing interventions for this goal would be the nurse asking and educating the patient on her medication and by the end of shift asking the patient to verbalize the understanding and benefits behind one medication.
I perceive myself as someone with many ambitions and interests; and yet, I cannot recall an exact moment when my aspiration for nursing became prevalent. School has always been my number one priority. I focus hard to achieve the grades I want by making sure I turn all my homework in on time and studying for tests. Sometimes school can be very stressful but I have to push myself to strive for the grades I want. I have learned that before taking a test you need to make sure you study in as many ways possible so when the test day comes you will not have any issues. Another thing that is difficult and for me gets in the way of school is having a job.
As a newly graduated registered nurse, I recognize the vital role that continuous education plays in the evolution of the nursing profession. Obtaining my Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in pediatrics is a critical aspect of my professional development, as it aligns with my long-term goals of leading change in healthcare and improving health outcomes for my patients. My professional nursing goal is to become an expert in delivering comprehensive care to children with complex medical needs, and I believe the DNP program will help me achieve this goal. Nursing Goals and College Selection My goal in nursing is to help transition the current reactionary healthcare system to a proactive one. To accomplish this goal, I would need fresh ideas with a solid core of research. Therefore, I needed a university that offered a well rounded, eclectic curriculum. Walden University (2015a) is committed to creating “scholar-practitioners” (para. 7), by blending real world applications, research and scholastics to encourage the “cross-fertilization of ideas” (para. 2).
Introduction Continuing one’s education after you have gotten a degree and employment is important. It is important to stay abreast of the new information coming your in your field. In the field of medicine, you need to know the latest information for your patients. As an educator of nurses, it is important to know this information because you are educating the next generation of nurses.
After my rewarding experience at Dr. Visconti 's clinic, I was hooked and I looked for other volunteer opportunities. Since then, I have coached competitive youth soccer, I volunteered at Capital Care which is an Alzheimer 's and dementia retirement home, I joined the University of Alberta Shinerama club as an executive to raise money for cystic fibrosis research, I have volunteered in the emergency department of a hospital, and more. These experiences have been important in molding me into the person I am today. Coaching has improved my teaching and mentoring skills, volunteering at Capital Care has instilled me with patience and non-verbal communication skills, through Shinerama, I have advanced my organizational and management skills, and my empathy, compassion, and medical awareness have improved during my volunteering stint at the hospital.
Career Goal I have a few career goals such as becoming an ER registered nurse and a nurse practitioner but fist I want to be an ER registered nurse. For a long time now I could just envision myself in the blue scrub running out to the ambulance as the EMT rushed the patient into the hospital. And successfully collaborating with a team of people to save someone's life.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect and giving of yourself to the care of people and community. It is having compassion for people and their health and being a humanitarian, making sure they receive the best care possible. Nurses must also treat families of patients with kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also. Nursing is a responsibility to provide the best care regardless of the patient’s age, race, religion, sex, disability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or their past.
My career goal is to become a registered nurse. While I have not currently picked a concentration, I am leaning towards pediatrics or labor and delivery. Going to NYIT would help me with this goal because I would be able to earn my bachelor degree in nursing and then take the NCLEX and hopefully become a licensed, registered nurse. I want to become a nurse in order to help people. Ever since I was a child I have wanted to make a difference and help others who are in need.
