Affirmative Action legislation has been the topic of heated debates for decades, but most recently called into question for its polarizing issue. Various levels influence the economic and social aspects of society. Four varieties of mobility include upward, downward, intergenerational, and intergenerational. Upward mobility can occur for lower-income individuals who have upgraded their economic status. This is done by greater education or career advancement to move to a higher position on the social ladder. Downward mobility occurs when a higher-class individual is moved down the social ladder to a lower class as a result of unfortunate financial issues, unemployment, or unforeseen circumstances. Intergenerational mobility emphasizes changes in the social ladder between parents and their children. A child that can achieve higher success than their parent's status has high intergenerational mobility. However, the families that are in a low-income situation find it harder to break the poverty cycle and move up the ladder.
