Kidblog Hey Brett if I was alive during the Revolutionary War days I would want to be a Patriot because you get to protect our country. Patriots never really had to worry about having a place to live because no matter what their was always someone that had a house that you could live with. No matter what U.S citizens always wanted to protect the Patriots.
According to ArticleⅡ, SectionⅠ, Clause Ⅴ, of the Constitution, a person must be a natural-born citizen to be eligible become president. However, many people from other countries have had the qualities and experience necessary to become president, yet they have been hindered from doing so by this foolish provision. Clearly, this is not right. I believe you do not need to be born on US soil, to become president for the following reasons: (1) many people misconceive the meaning of the word natural-born citizen,(2) many people from foreign countries have helped America in many ways,(3) most other countries do not have similar qualifications Firstly, many people misconceive the meaning of the word, natural-born citizen. According to an article by the Harvard Law Review, the word natural-born citizen actually means that a natural-born citizen is someone who has been given birth to by a parent who is a citizen of the United States regardless of where he or she is born, without going through the naturalization process.
This country is great for many reason, despite its hardships. One of the many reasons is that we have freedom to chose, freedom of religion, and freedom of speech. We are also a melting pot for many different ethnicity. Being an American is about the freedom we here enjoy. We are full of different ethnicity and cultures.
Being an American means a few things. Freedom, protecting the weak, loving your country, and being active in political affairs. The most important and also the most defining is freedom. Americans are free in both mind and body; able to think freely and, for the most part, act accordingly. Being an American means that almost anyone can run for government positions.
What does it mean to be an American today? Being an American isn’t hard, but sometimes people just like to not follow things. First thing is being to say The Pledge of Allegiance in school than sitting down on your lazy butt. Second thing is being yourself. Three thing is if you are at a game standing up and put your hand on our heart for The Star Stander Bender .
What does it mean to be American? On the surface, the question of ‘what it means to be an American’ would normally invoke an emotional response of patriotism, freedom, and the opportunity to live one’s dreams. While this is true for me in the larger context, however, ‘what it means to be an American’ is deeper and has a more visceral meaning to me. To quote Ayman from the New York Times interactive story project about being an American, “I think America was an idea sold to different groups of people and rebranded multiple times, for my parents it was opportunity to escape a third world country for a better life.”
Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Being American to me means the ability to pursue happiness, an education, an income, and any of my dreams. Being able to live in a country that you can do anything that you set your mind to do and not having a dictator ruling the citizens. By being apart of this nation you are fortunate enough to have and make your own choices in life. Two main symbols that most people can immediately name when they think of the U.S. is the bald eagle and the American flag.
In my eyes, what it means to be an American starts with the idea of opportunity and individuality2. America is often seen as the land of opportunity, and the people who move to America generally come because they want opportunity. Being an American means you can be whoever you want to be and do whatever you want to do, as long as it’s legal. For example, women in the U.S. can drive or have any job that they want, unlike women in other countries that don’t get that chance.
When World War two ended, it did not bring the peace that so many millions of people across the globe longed for. Instead they were disappointed with the opposite of what they hoped would happen, the Cold War. The reason that the Cold war was so scary was because it was the first time in history where the world could literally blow end the human race. Why did this happen? Could it be stopped?
The highlight of being american is freedom, as an american we have have the rights to be or to do what we want. We can choose what school or what college we want to go and also we can choose a major for us to make a living. Being American gave us freedom of speech, the chance to vote, also the country would help you out if you need money, health insurance, and welfare. The amazing thing about being american is that we have a great army that fight day and night to keep the american people safe and sound.
What makes America great? There are many things that make America great. Americans are a diverse group of people, and being an American means different things to each subgroup of people who live there. To me, being an American has some negative aspect; however the rights we have, and our resources vastly outweigh the bad aspects. American Citizen's rights that most people in other countries don’t.
I am so proud to be an American because we have the freedom of choice. When I watch the television I see that other countries do not have the choices that we have as Americans and it makes me feel special. I have the choice of what President I like and no matter what color I am or what I believe in, it is okay. I can decide what type of clothes I want to wear, food I like to eat, and places I like to travel. I go to school for free and I can speak what I feel as long as I am respectful.
America is the best country in the world or at least all Americans say that, but how does someone truly be American? How to identify if someone is American, is it the white socks we wear or just the fact that every American is twice the size then the average male. Americans are big on self representation an American is always express their pride and freedom.
In some of the pieces of literature like “I, Too, Sing America,” “America and I,” “The Bill of Rights,” and “Veterans Day: Never Forget Their Duty” the authors have different ideas of what it means to be American.
