The Appalachian South was used for its resources. Very few people lived there, therefore it was difficult to maintain, or as the book states, “...little to reinvest in its physical or human resources.” Also the textbook mentioned the working conditions. For example: employees viewed as cheap labor, requirements to buy from company stores, and low life expectancy rates.
There are both pros and cons to the location of Maryville University. Cons include the high crime rates in the St. Louis area around Maryville. St. Louis is ranked far above average compared to other cities nationwide in crime. Aggravated assault and robbery are among the highest crimes committed in St. Louis. The most common crimes committed on-campus at Maryville are burglary and forcible sexual assault.
English promoters such as Sir Waltere Ralegh, Sir Francis Drake, and Sir Richard Grenville were known to be the bold, gambling folk of their day. They aspired for England to further expand its trade and colonize North America. In endorsing such ideas, they were often referred to the by the name The Promoters. The Promoters brought together the few people who agreed to travel to the New World. These people were paying with their own money in hopes of enriching themselves as well as honoring their country.

We got there at December 19, 1777, we are 22 miles from Pennsylvania, many of us are sick, it is very cold, and we are hungry. I was asked a question which is: will you reenlist and fight for our country or will you quit and go home.
In July of 1933, the North Carolina State Legislature formed the EBNC. The EBNC is The Eugenics Board of North Carolina. The board was formed to repeal a 1929 law that had been put in place to provide sterilization for persons that were feeble minded and mentally defective in North Carolinian penal institutes. The EBNC was put in place when the act was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court because it permanently affects the lives of inmates in a system similar to bartering. There was the perception of fairness to inmates who are being coerced into contraceptive intake or “sterilization”.
The Clayton Ridge Community School District is located in beautiful and scenic northeast Iowa along the Mississippi River and Lock and Dam #10. The PreK-3rd grades and high school are located in Guttenberg, and the 4th-7th grades are located in Garnavillo, which is located about 10 miles north. Clayton Ridge was formed in 2005 when two school districts (Guttenberg CSD and Garnavillo CSD) decided it was in the best interest of the students, staff, and communities to combine efforts (2017). Overall, the merge has been a positive experience for everyone involved.
Before this class I had never watched or heard of the film The Hunting Ground. I immediately downloaded Lady Gaga’s song to my phone. I felt I learned the most from this unit as well as feeling the most connected to what we were talking about in class. The film taught me that sexual assault on campuses is more common than I thought as well as less reported than I thought. It was shocking to learn of how colleges had ways of protecting a lot of the accused offenders, for example the athletes or fraternities.
In college, they learned to keep pushing and never let one thing knock you down. They have told me countless times of how they had to work to go to school and change how they acted around classmates. I learned that if my dad didn’t have that degree I wouldn’t be writing this journal entry right now. It made me appreciate what I have and try to give to others that need help. Encourage people to shoot for the stars and attend that class because something as small as money for a bus ticket can change a person’s

Without a doubt attending North Carolina Governor 's School West has had the greatest impact on my thinking. I was privileged to join a few hundred of the brightest minds of my age in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for a six week experience away from outside influence. This immersion was especially life altering because of how open-minded everyone was to new perspectives. This truly created an environment of learning and expression in addition to being a major liberation from my everyday life as I had to be truly independent while on Salem College’s campus. I attended as a choral ensemble student, but was able to experience so much more in addition to choir.
I learned a couple things like to ask questions even if they sound dumb to yourself; to not overthink things; start working on assignments earlier rather than later; and have a clear understanding of what the assignments or least an understanding
This program has given me the skills I need to adapt to new problems that I would not have anticipated the day before and to have a strong work ethic. I have taken away many useful strategies and information from the College 101 class I took this summer. This course has given me enough information to help me feel confident that I will be successful in the rest of my highschool experience and my future college experience. This course has given me skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. Learning to study properly, avoid procrastination, and take notes correctly has been something that has already helped me tremendously. It has helped me feel less stressed on a day-to-day basis as well as improving my school work quality.
I learned that any barrier you face there is always an option to overcome it and be successful. I can grow by working my hardest on my school work and never giving up, even when things get hard. I also learned that time management is a very great skill to obtain at this time in my life, because college courses take time, effort, and lots of patience. I must give myself time to prepare for class work and especially exams. Having a schedule for my school work and my personal life is the best choice to help me stay on track.
