Muscatine iowa is concidering building a public dog park in a residential area of the city. The park would consist of an acre of open land surrounded by a fence where dog owners can unleash their dogs for play and exersie. Sounds like a reasonable request to consider... but is it bound to be a burden for tax payers and the everyday life of a resident in the city or are we in desperate need af a dog park? In the city about 68% of city residents inhabits rental units.
Self Defence, or Murder? On March 5, 1770, on the main road of the colony of Boston, the soldiers of Captain Preston fired their guns towards the colonist who were violating their personal space. What is unknown is to weather Captain Preston said the order to fire the guns or not. Of those who were there to presence the act, few who are brave enough have come to speak for those in trial.
The federal government was overwhelmed with cases, so that bootlegging and speakeasies flourished in every city, and well-organized criminal gangs exploded in numbers, finances, power, and influence on city politics.[1]
Settling in Charles Town That place called Charleston, South Carolina once started off as Charles Town. A man named Sir Robert Heath sparked interest to this land which caused the English to come over. The first settlement was founded at Albemarle Point but it was not easy. Settling was difficult in Charles Town because geography, resources and disease.
In Missoula-Rape and the Justice system in a College Town by Jon Krakauer tells a series of events in the city of Missoula,home to an elite state university whose highly praised football team galvanizes a passionately loyal fan base. Between January 2008 and May 2012, hundreds of students reported sexual assaults to the local police. Few cases were handled properly by the university or local authorities. Krakauer's purpose was to show how rape victims are often not believed. One of the methods that Krakuar uses is pathos which is an argument of emotion.
Columbus is not worthy of a holiday because he was cruel to the Natives and claimed their land that they found first. For example Columbus forced the Native Americans to do what he said,he also brought over many illnesses such as smallpox and more the disease made them sick,die,and suffer. In this case Columbus set up the Atlantic Slave Trade and also set up many colonies. Columbus also made the Europeans claim the land and traded the Natives for Africans. In a result, Columbus made life for others in the land miserable and took their words,he also made it so that the indians had to figure out their own ways to get resources because he took theirs, including iron, wheat and more.
A book that I recently read that showed a reflection of my self-understanding was Missoula by Jon Krakauer because it extended my perspective on women’s safety on college campuses. The book Missoula shares stories of five women who were sexually assaulted at the University of Montana, Missoula and follows their cases all the way to trial. As a girl who has always been told that a college education is necessary to succeed in life, the idea that colleges arent safe for me felt like a secret that I wasnt allowed to know until I experienced it for myself. Reading the statistics and seeing how all of the rapists walked away unpunished strengthened my understanding of the fact that sexual assault is a normal occurance on college campuses.
1. How do people react when they sense change? The citizens of Pleasantville either embraced or denied change. Those who reacted positively to the changes occurring in Pleasantville grew happier and experienced a physical change in the form of gaining color.
Imagine being a teenager in the 90's and getting sucked into a black and white T.V. show. That would have to be a worst nightmare convievable or one's sweetest dream come true, that is if you're a nerd. That is the movie Pleasantville. But, there is more to the film, than just a simple lesson at the end.
A passenger on flight 20 seat 3 row 8 is looking very suspicious as he placed an object in his bag before he took his seat. Air marshals have to ask themselves questions about these types of situations before taking action. When seeking a career as a Us Marshal, a person should look at aspects such as ones responsibilities, necessary skills, work conditions, salary, and its prospects, but even more importantly is to prepare oneself properly by attending an institution such as the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) that will offer the best training possible. Becoming a Us Marshal is something people are inspired to be. Some of the things a Us Marshal are involved on can be ruling on federal courts.
Dorothy Siegel’s argument in the essay “What Is Behind the Growth of Violence on College Campuses?” is persuasive. Siegel persuades the reader by presenting her points and validating them with facts and statistics. One of the strongest aspects of the argument is that contrary to popular belief, students are committing a majority of the crimes that take place on college campuses; the students “themselves may become the assailants”, not persons from outside of the campus. She further supported this by pointing out that students tend to know their attackers. Another strong aspect of her argument is that campus violence is due to substance abuse.
It looks scary how vulnerable the survivor can be at the time of assault. However, as long as the matter of violence is associated, the students at college campuses are safer than their non-college mates. Some training and education has been administrated to the students for awareness about the violence and sexual assaults. Even, with increased training and education, most of the college campuses have much longer way to go for decreasing the intensity and number of assaults and the incidents have immense negative impact on the society and people around us.
In addition to monetary obstacles, societal obstacles are a part of many college student lives as well. There are many different societies in college which means that there are many different societal obstacles to possibly deal with. There are plenty of obstacles that college students will encounter and they can simply avoid them. These are issues such as smoking or drinking. Students who are around crowds who like to smoke and drink could possibly pressure the college student to do either or even both.
Chicago and other major cities remain in the news, as they continue to struggle with high murder rates. In fact, the city of Chicago has witnessed a 50 percent increase in its murder rate in only a one year period, and this area is not alone. Thankfully, cities across America and noticing violent and property crime rates remain at historic lows. The new adminstration has noted the increase in murder rates, but needs to also consider that other crimes on are the decline, which is always a good thing.
No economic opportunities in a community can factor into high crime rates. Drug use and gangs can also factor into this. Other factors may include a lack of family support and a poor education system. 4. Location can be a factor of crime even if key factors are biological and psychological.
