Civil disobedience is a way to refuse or protest a topic non violently, a peaceful form of political protest. Some people believe that civil disobedience is ineffective because it may not always solve the problem and they believe violence is the only answer. I believe that civil disobedience is effective because it is a strong way to be heard, without using violence. Rosa Parks was a very well known civil rights activist. She is best known for boycotting the Montgomery, Alabama, bus system for trying to make her get up and out of her seat because it was labeled “white”. (Rosa Parks 2)This was helped led by Martin Luther King Jr. who was asked to be the president of the Boycott. On December 5, Parks was found guilty of violating segregation laws, given a suspended sentence and fined $10 plus $4 in court costs. When Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat in 1955, it wasn’t the first time she’d fought with this driver. His name was James Blake. Rosa Parks stepped onto his very crowded bus 12 years earlier, paid her fee at the front, then resisted to sit in the place for blacks to leave and re-enter through the back door. She stood her ground until Blake pulled her coat sleeve and demanded her cooperation. Parks left the bus rather than give in.
