Admissions or Competitions?

When asking people about college they are usually determined on a particular school, but what are the chances of them actually being accepted? Admission to college isn’t as simple as just filling out a form anymore, it has evolved into something more difficult and competitive. Forms have become longer and more personal. There are certain dates when forms must be turned in and you have to hope that yours is the first of many to be turned in. You must have an exceptional application or you won’t even be considered, even if you have a lot to offer. You also must hope you are the right ethnicity. Yeah that’s right, ethnicity counts too. These Americans harbor the belief that this process is helping to prevent past situations of discrimination from reoccurring within our community. These people are persistent about carrying out affirmative action being that there has been a history of discrimination against women and minorities in the past. The ideal of this process is to make certain that all groups of people are granted the same opportunities as others, which is why certain people believe that this process is paramount. In an online article titled “Arguments for and against Affirmative action,” the author list points that show the positive side of affirmative action. A majority of the points stated in the article, correlate with the information stated above, and one other statement is, that diversity creates a better learning and work environment. This is yet another belief of those who are for affirmative action that details why it is an efficient process.
