Avril Yanez World Studies Mrs. Fenrich 12 May 2024 The Impact of the Records and Programs The Nazi regime’s meticulous documentation systems played a central role in the execution of its inhumane policies during World War II. From the well-organized documentation of hundreds of thousands of prisoners in Auschwitz to the precise tracking of medical experiment results, these systems demonstrated an extreme level of administrative control. The detailed records left behind by Nazi officials have since become crucial tools in convicting perpetrators and to keep people from committing atrocities alike. The Nazi programs and documentation systems were so organized and extensively noted that they not only shaped the way World War II played out, but
According to Wikipedia, the official explanation for the term natural selection is: the differential survival and reproduction of individuals due to differences in phenotype. Artificial selection, on the other hand, is the process by which humans use animal breeding and plant breeding to selectively develop particular desired traits. These two were first fully expounded by Charles Darwin in On the Origin of Species, and are often put together for comparison. The two combined are now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution. In the following essay, I’m going to state out some differences by focusing on some pros and cons of both of them.
Natural selection the changing based on the environment, this produces an organism that is better suited to the environment. Some reasons for adaption of individual organelles include physical environments; precipitation and soil conditions or for biological reasons; diseases, competitors, or animals wanting to eat them. Natural selection will take many individual mutations that have been create due to a threat to be transferred to the rest of a species in a given environment. This creates genetically distinct populations known as ecotypes. Natural selection is acting on random variation that chooses the most favorable and inheritable mutation, these organelles will increase their chance to survive and to reproduce.
Social Darwinism is a concept applying Darwin's natural selection and evolution theory to a human society. It is used to justify the injustices and inequalities among races and culture. Social Darwinism was popular in the late 19th century because of a philosopher named Herbert Spencer who came up with the phrase, “survival of the fittest”. Additionally Darwin published his book where he talks about natural selection in the later half of 1900’s. Social Darwinism was used to justify racism because some human races and ethnic groups have desirable and “strong” traits.
Imagine what would happen if we lived in a world where water was kept 8 feet off the ground and there was absolutely no way you could get it if you weren’t tall enough. Most likely, the short people would die off. The taller ones would multiply, and before long, instead of a population of people of all sizes, you would have a population of only tall people. Living things that are best suited, or adapted, to their environment survive and multiply. Those that are not, are unable to survive.
Natural Selection is the long gradual process in which Biological traits either become more or less common in a population as a function of the effect of inherited traits on the differential reproductive success of organisms interacting with their environment. In Darwin’s work The Origin of Species he also mentioned evidence for the Theory of Evolution from his voyage around the world on The H.M.S. Beagle. The Origin of Species is probably the most influential work on evolutionary biology. The Origin of Species will help prove my thesis because it introduces the ideas that we base on evolutionary biology today.
They claim that the world was not made in days, but rather earth was formed from a fireball explosion caused by chemicals joining together. And also all creatures on earth are linked to one common ancestor. Another evolutionist called Charles Darwin also explained a theory he discovered known “Darwin’s Theory Of Evolution”. According to Darwin, the world evolves through a process called natural selection. Natural Selection is when the strongest gene is able to adapt and multiple on a specific ecosystem.
Social Darwinists first began influencing Western thought in the nineteenth century and well into the twentieth century. They argued that “white European men were wealthier and better because they were more highly evolved than white women, people of color, and any other race”. (the making of the west, Hunt, pg. 724) During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries Social Darwinism influenced the lives of European women, colonial subjects, and racial minorities by implementing law and policies to further show their superiority, they “promoted racism and sexist behavior”. (hunt, pg.724)
Introduction The theory of evolution has been discussed, evaluated, and researched many times since the theory was first brought to light. Darwin’s theory of evolution is said to be divided into two parts, common decent and natural selection (Bouzat, 2014). Many research papers agreeing with Darwin’s theory comment on the diversity of a species and how they have descended from one common ancestor. Natural selection is a process in which species that are better adapted to the environment tend to survive and reproduce (Dictonary.com).
Eugenics is the science of using artificial selection to improve genetic features of the population. It is thought that improvement of the human race can be seen through sterilization of people who exhibit undesirable traits and selective breeding. Often called Social Darwinism, the concept was widely accepted during the time of World War I. It quickly became a taboo after World War II when Nazi Germany used it as an excuse for genocide. The thought of improving the human race by manipulating who is allowed to breed can either be appalling or compelling.
Top 6 PhD programs in Biology in the US Doctor of Philosophy in biology lets the students be equipped with the knowledge of a specific field in life sciences. Biology is one of the study areas in the broad discipline of biological sciences. Studying biology in a postgraduate course can be a pathway towards conducting research in a wide range of topics. The PhD degrees prepare the students for great careers in various occupations in research, government and academic institutions. While pursuing PhD, students get the opportunity in the form of teaching or research assistantships.
Social Darwinism is the result of applying Charles Darwin’s theories of evolution to human society, and one of the forefront Social Darwinists was none other than William Graham Sumner. In general, the concept of Social Darwinism has many pros such as “breeding” out weakness and disease, supporting the strong, and encouraging the development of a more advanced society. It also as many disadvantages, however, such as a smaller gene pool, hindering the weak, and controlling who gets to have children. Using the writings of both Darwin and Sumner, these pros and cons will be explored to prove that the negatives of Social Darwinism outweigh the positives. To begin, the first pro of Social Darwinism is the elimination of weakness and disease.
Charles Darwin became famous for his theory of natural selection. This theory suggests that a change in heritability traits takes place in a population over time. This is due to random mutations that occur in the genome of an individual organism, and offspring can inherit these mutations. This was defined as the key to evolution, this is because random mutations arise in the genome of an individual. Until the 19th century, the prevailing view in western societies was that differences between individuals of species were uninteresting departures from their platonic ideals of created kinds.
The Evolutionism or Creationism Debate The evolutionism-reationism debate has been going on for centuries among christians and scientists. However, creationism is said to have more logical proof of their points being the strongest. According to Charles Darwin, Natural selection is the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin, and it is now regarded as be the main process that brings about evolution.
This part of the essay will summarize the main points of naturalism, creationism and existentialism suggested by Baggini. Both pros and cons of the above positions will be discussed and the preferred position will be indicated at the last part. Naturalism is a science aspect to examine the meaning of life. All life has started with the Big Bang 15 billion years ago. This position suggests that the meaning of life can be found by the origin of life.
