Some may feel as though direct democracy is the right thing for our government but I disagree. With more freedom comes greater responsibility to the individual person. With that increased responsibility, there is no way to tell if the people in society will educate themselves about the occurring issues. A more thorough explanation as to why I disagree is presented below.
In my opinion, direct democracy is more of a negative way for a society to make decisions rather than a positive one. With more personal freedom, we are at a greater risk for mob rule. If people had more of a say, there is no telling what changes could be made and laws might be passed due to a majority ruling. It has been said that marijuana alters the perception of people while under the influence of this substance. There was a study done that states that marijuana was the most widely found drug in impaired or fatally injured drivers. Marijuana has also been said to have a negative effect on the brain in regards to memory. When talking about the brain, mental health is a topic that is associated with this particular area. Some researchers have said that there is a correlation between the use of marijuana and mental illness but they aren’t sure to what degree. When using marijuana, the heart rate increases by approximately twenty to a hundred percent. The heart rate increase could cause heart palpitations, arrhythmias, and heart attacks. If this were used in an elderly person with heart problems, there could be a risk for
