Adults believe increasing the age on legal driving will resolve many problems with teenage car accidents, such as drinking and driving and distracted driving. Moving the age to eighteen however, may not reduce the number of accidents but increase them. As of 2015 the percentage of teenage alcoholics was high, from an age as low as fourteen and rises to over the age of eighteen and in today's society many young adults care more about their phone than anything. Even though traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teenage driving, the legal driving age should not be moved to eighteen because it will become more dangerous for teens. For the reason that when a minor does something wrong they feel the need to hide it, and this could set up a dangerous situation for many kids.
Studies have linked texting, drugs and alcohol to teenage car accidents from the ages of fifteen to twenty. Since 1993 the number of fatal car accident has increased 13% based on one of the most dangerous forms of distracted driving, texting.
