Pros And Cons Of Embryonic Stem Cells

573 Words3 Pages

In this essay I plan to discuss whether embryonic stem cells should be used in the future to regenerate human organs. I will be discussing the advantages and disadvantages of using embryonic stem cells based upon my research. There are many disputes about using embryonic stem cells due to the way they are created. The ethical implications of using embryonic stem cells go against the belief of people who are “Pro-Life” (the belief that a foetus has no voice so living humans need to protect the foetus from preventable harm such as an abortion) Many people believe that culturing embryonic stem cells is basically an abortion due to the embryo dying after the stem cells have been harvested. They have proved their worth by helping people who have heart disease and can be used to regenerate badly damage human organs, some scientist are …show more content…

Embryonic stem cells are an undifferentiated cell of a multicellular organism (a foetus) which is capable of creating indefinitely more cells of the same type, and from which certain other kinds of cells arise by differentiation. They can take on any job that they need to become (based on the needs of the body) with the right conditions; they can turn into most types of cells from skin cells to root hair cells. Scientists are now trying to understand how a stem cell decides to self-renew and differentiate into a more mature cell. Another goal of the scientists research is to direct cells down certain routes,so that they become specialised cells. the reason a stem cell is harvested from a zygote, is because that is when us human are a ball of cells, waiting to be to what cell we need to become. a cell becomes the cell it needs to be when signals are sent to the cell to turn of specific
