In other words, the definition of terrorism, in theory, is different from what’s being demonstrated in reality. Many crimes would be qualified as terrorist if the definition is fully applied. Some groups are categorized as terrorists while others are not. The author explains this irregularity by what the political objectives are. This irregularity does not mean arbitrariness but it means bias instead.

I completely agree with your analysis between Los Zetas and the Hezbollah. On one hand you have Los Zetas, a Mexican Cartel who is a serious threat to the Mexican government. On the other hand you have Hezbollah, the Lebanese terror group that is a Hybrid threat to Lebanon and other countries. Los Zetas were once upon a time former Mexican Army soldiers who broke off from another drug cartel. This in my mind makes them a hybrid threat in two ways.
Introduction If one takes the approach that terror can be a means of achieving political goals, one can therefore argue that the crimes of terrorism and money laundering are indeed distinctive in their nature. Nonetheless, in agreement with Dr. Mugarura in his PhD thesis, it can be stated that the distinction between both have been submerged since money launderers, narcotic drug dealers, and terrorists have established partnerships to use terror as a means of achieving their objectives. For this very reason, terrorists utilize typical money laundering methods to move money around and integrate it into the financial system. For the past 14 years anti-money laundering policies have been augmented by measures adopted in order to prevent the
The system of smart sanctions against al-Qaida, the Taliban, and their associates, introduced in 1999, has become a crucial part of the international effort to counter threats of terrorism. The 1267 Committee, which is the body responsible for designating smart sanctions, aims at proscribing terrorist organizations, prohibiting their existence and actions, and curbing and reducing their access to funds and personal support. Whereas at first the Committee was seen as a vehicle for promoting an integrated, common response to terrorism, over time critics have come to see demands for changes in domestic law as unwarranted interventions by the Security Council. Sanctions: UN sanctions regimes generally utilize the same means of investigative
At first, this article may sound foolish and would appear to be a waste of time, but in actuality the reporter was able to get valuable information about a group that is usually very secretive by engaging them in a fun activity. In this case, the Vice reporter, Mitchel Prothero, was able to learn about Hezbollah’s tactics for avoiding detection while traveling along the Israel-Palestine border. Another example of their serious journalism was Vice’s documentary “The Islamic State.” In this documentary, Vice reporter Medyan Dairieh rides along with members of the Islamic State, including its Chief of Public Relations. This documentary shed light on a few things with the biggest being how completely children are inoculated into the beliefs of the Islamic State.
Gaining media recognition, though still a paramount goal of guerrilla factions, is a tributary aim in that it is a stepping stone on the way to accomplishing superior objectives. Terrorists exploit “propaganda by the deed” and recognise that intercontinental activities will secure extreme media revelation. Initially, the PLO restricted their attacks to civil and Zionist institutions however, in order to ‘enlighten western civic opinion’ it became indispensable to alter their target to civilians both within and outside of Israel. Bruce Hoffman, one of the most prominent academics working in the field of terrorism, gives light to the efforts of the PLO as a manifestation of terrorism’s efficacy as a political tactic and places a substantial prominence on the internationalisation of their turmoil.
The story of the great Abbasid empire is not a story that is uncommon among Muslim. It is an empire that has increased the status of Islam in this world. The development from the aspect of politic, economic and social are very good and excellent. For example, from the aspect of economic, during Abbasid empire, the leader has paid a great attention to Al-Suq(markets) as they realized the importance of markets for maintaining the economy of an empire. What makes Al-Suq as one of the proofs of how great was Abbasid empire is, Al-Suq has been organized by differentiating each location according to the nature of the various trades and crafts.
After the State of Israel had been around for 50 years, wars lessened and attempts at negotiations started. In 1988, Arafat, the chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organization(PLO), declared the State of Palestine, not indicating the borders of the state or how it would interact with the State of Israel, “the announcement was mainly a political declaration of hope and intent without immediate practical meaning”(pro-con). This was an aggressive attempt on the part of the Palestinians to establish themselves as a Nation, and they would not be ignored. In 1993, Israel and the PLO come to an agreement. Arafat wrote a letter to the then Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin; announcing a declaration of peace, recognising Israel and condemning violence towards Israelis.
Careful consideration must be made in the analysis of such criminal organizations. The threat grows every day. Hezbollah has been operating for approximately 30 years. Originally started as an anti-Israeli group set for Islamic radicalization
The way to rise up in the world and achieve power is through the use of violence, and with power, comes money. Despite this, it doesn’t condemn the mafia, but rather we are given the opportunity to make our decision on who is morally just and who
One of the most dangerous and deadliest Terrorist groups in the world was discovered to be teaming up with some of the most ruthless and unforgiving drug cartel groups in Mexico, both have their eyes on taking their own shots at “The land of the Free”. It is a fight that looks like Mexico’s government might win, although Hezbollah has put up a fight, but the Government has struck down every output and shop that they have scattered around Mexico. My inspiration to write this paper was to dive deeper ion the reason why There seems to be no stop at all, to all kinds of Terrorism in Mexico. LOCAL DEMOCRACY AND ORGANIZED CRIME The international community is increasingly recognizing the threat that organized crime poses to the legitimacy of democratic institutions through forming symbiotic alliances with politicians, political parties and state officials. Organzed crime focus on safeguarding their interests—including their control of territory, access to transport and guaranteeing impunity for their cimes—through the use of threats/violence as well as strategic alliances with the political disposal of illicit networks. At the same time, politicians have been keen to exploit the resources and power at the disposal of organized crime. The relationship between illicit networks and politicians is one of symbiotic character based purely
Abstract Sectarianism holds hegemonic power over Lebanon that is resistant to challenges of change. Institutional and foreign actors serve to instill and reinforce sectarianism from above while political and economic elites play on sectarian sentiments to maintain and enhance their power, contributing to sectarianism from below. These efforts ensure that the Lebanese subjects remain affiliated with their respective sects, compartmentalized in self-managed communities. Introduction Sectarian democracy, the political system adopted by Lebanon, fuses formal and informal sectarian and democratic components. Democracy is manifested in the way power is organized: upholding democratic principles such as the rights of individuals through elections,
