Illegal Immigration: Should illegal immigrants be made legal citizens
Illegal immigration has been an issue in our society for years, but recently, it has been all Washington D.C. has been talking about. Within the past couple of months, President Obama has been pushing for an immigration reform and to broaden the horizons of the federal government and allow some leeway for illegal immigrants presently living in the United States. Goal number one: Obama wants to crack down on illegal immigration at the border. He is trying to increase the chance that anyone trying to cross the border illegally will be caught and sent back. Goal number two: The president is focusing on deporting felons, not families. He wants to deport anyone who threatens the national security. He is aiming towards those who partake in illegal gang, drugs or any violent criminal activity. His third and final goal is to hold accountable undocumented immigrants that have lived in the United States for more than five years and are parents of U.S. citizens. Looking at our country’s upbringing, immigrants are what made the United States to what it is today. In fact, all of our founding fathers were immigrants. President Obama exclaimed that "We didn’t raise the Statue of Liberty with her back to the world, we did it with her light shining as a beacon to the world. And whether we were Irish or Italians or Germans crossing the Atlantic, or Japanese or Chinese crossing the Pacific; whether we crossed the Rio Grande or flew here from all over the world — generations of immigrants have made this country into what it is. It’s what makes us special." Native American tribes inhabited North America years before any settlers crossed the Atlantic in search of the New World. Many argue that our founding fathers were illegal immigrants in the eyes of the Natives. That being, supporters such as President Obama believe that immigrants shouldn’t have to go through an extreme amount of effort, money and time in order to become a U.S.
