Would global legalization of marijuana be good for a nation/society?

Usage of marijuana is currently a very prominent and controversial issue in our society today. With so many illegal occurrences happening all over the world like someone being arrested for the illegal usage and with so many pros and cons of marijuana, I decided to choose this topic and take a stand in this controversy. –sentence structure/words

Marijuana has currently been legalized in various countries including the Netherlands, Canada, Colombia and Mexico. Using marijuana for medicinal purposes is not something new. It reduces nausea and vomiting during chemotherapy, increases appetite in patients with HIV/AIDS, and various other uses. Through the years, the usage of marijuana has been increasing for medicinal purposes and patients are able to use marijuana as an effective method of treatment for their ailments.

However, excessive consumption of marijuana would cause the THC (tetrahydrocannabidol), one of the components in marijuana, to quickly pass from the lungs to the bloodstream when smoked, hence, affecting the whole body. It also causes anxiety, increased heart rate, depression and red eyes.

Marijuana was actually legal in India until 1985. All cannabis derivatives were legally sold in the country, but because of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) it was illegalized.

Therefore, in my opinion, marijuana must be legalized for only medicinal uses all over the world. This way, treatments for certain diseases can be done and since taxes will be levied, the revenue would also increase. DUI drug arrests would also decreases or would not increase, at least. But mustn’t be legalized for recreational uses because of its adverse effects on the body.
This way, a country would be successful, efficiency would increase and thus the GDP of a country would also increase.
