The problem with drinking has been in existence in America for a long time. Young children have been caught drunk despite the laws in place meant to curb their drinking. However, the drinking problem does not have anything to do with age. Adults cause accidents due to drunk driving and engage in drunken fights. These people are not kids. Moreover, kids have been drinking despite the fact that there is a statute prohibiting the same. In fact, the underage drinking is prevalent because of the age factor. More times than not, the people who commit these offenses are older people who would have used their experiences in life to show better judgment. Moreover, if the nineteen years olds are trusted with dangerous weapons such as the guns during wars, they can be trusted with a pint of beer. After all, the gun is more dangerous than a glass of beer.
Moreover, the nineteen-year-olds are old enough to make informed decisions since they are trusted to choose their leaders during the election. During the election, eighteen and nineteen-year-olds allowed to vote in America. This means that they are trusted to make a better judgment and pick a candidate that will serve the nation well. This same faith in this group during elections should be extended to the issue with alcohol.
Another party could say that even kids aged twelve years old could obtain a hunting license at the age of twelve. This does not mean that they can restrain the effects of alcohol because they have hunting or a driving license. They can also argue that, although the events that occur after drinking are irrespective of the age, early drinking leads to early addiction. They would say that since addiction arises from continued drinking, underage drinking would increase the chances of addiction. This is not helpful for the economy and health of the
