“Who are you voting for President?” “Are you a Democrat or Republican?” As we inch towards
Presidential Election “season” if you will, we here these questions quite often. However, today I am going to talk to you about the country’s current voting age. At age 18, U.S. citizens are legally allowed to cast their ballot for the Presidential Election. Over the years, people have been debating on wether to drop the age to 16 or to leave it at 18 years old. I have read 2 articles about the pros & cons of lowering it & keeping it where it stands today. The fate of a man or women’s future is in the hands of our nation’s people! I am a 15 year old sophomore and I have other things on my mind when it comes time to the election. As a current high schooler, I am busy with homework, tests, sports, and occasionally. . .friends!

This could cause a problem because our vote could be influenced by our parents, our friends, & even silly commercial ads. With this being said, lowering the voting age to 16 years old is not a smart thing to do.
Now, let’s fast forward to a couple of years. I will be 17 years of age my senior year. As we are maturing & learning to become more independent, I think this is a great stepping stone for becoming a successful individual. Maybe we will become more interested in this after taking high school courses such as government or polotics. Having a background of information, I feel like it will be not as easy to persuae our vote. This could make the numbers accurate. According to an article that I read, “Lowering the voting age would actually decrease these already low percentages.” Then it is followed by, “Most younger voters do not bother to vote at all.” Another statistic given by the U.S. Census Bureau also stated, “… close to 70% of older voters
