Power plants burn fuel to produce heat to generate energy; however, nuclear power plants use the heat given off fission to turn water into steam. Nuclear energy is without a doubt a great way to power our homes because, Nuclear power plants are safer than other energy alternatives. Nuclear plants are safer than other energy alternatives. Coal is responsible for five times more deaths than nuclear power plants, coal also causes over one thousands more serious causes of illness than nuclear. Nuclear plants produce steam while coal plants, heat water by burning coal that produces greenhouse emissions.
Over 20 percent of the energy in the United States comes from nuclear energy power plants. (Rinkesh, 2018) They so their best to get as much energy to the country as possible, but there are those out there who don’t agree with them. While there are downsides to nuclear energy, the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Nuclear power plants are a great way to get energy because they don’t let out much pollution, are very efficient, and are very safe.
My interviewee is a fifty-three-year-old, white female named Kat Smith. Kat is the mother of two daughters and has been married to her husband for twenty-five years. She is a stay at home mom and lives a comfortable middle class lifestyle. Kat was diagnosed with at age forty-nine with uterine fibroids that resulted in a total hysterectomy. Previously Kat had lived in extreme pain for over fifteen years, she expected that something was wrong, however, the doctors that were treating Kat did not order an ultrasound and attributed her pain to her menstrual cycle.
However, there are a number of controversies over the use of nuclear energy with some supporting its use while others opposing the use of nuclear energy. Despite the controversy on whether to use nuclear energy as an alternative, nuclear power has proved to be safe, reliable, clean, and inexpensive. Therefore, Nuclear energy should replace other forms of power around the globe because it is more environmentally friendly, cost effective, and safe for use and to exist with human beings compared to other forms of energy being used today. One of the main benefits of nuclear energy over other forms of energy is that it is a clean way to produce energy.
Nuclear Power Nuclear power plants can be good and bad. The new power plants have nine inch thick walls that can withstand pressure of 2,250 pounds per square inch. “It serves as an important barrier for any radioactive material produced in the reactor core during the operation of the plant.” Nuclear power plants are good because it generates heat, and electricity. Although power plants are good, they can also be bad.
Commonly, Nuclear Power plant generates electricity with minimum emissions that are detrimental to the environment. It works on the concept of Nuclear fission -Splitting of a single Uranium-235 atom by the incident of a neutron leads to the release of ~200 MeV of energy, a significant 200 million times more than an energy released from a chemical reaction. Pressurized water reactor (PWR) is the widely installed class in the fleet of nuclear power plants across the world. PWR uses 4~5 % of enriched U-235 as fuel and water as moderator and coolant. The energy released from the fission boils the water and generates high enthalpy steam.
Nuclear power plants are all over the U.S., with 99 nuclear reactors in 30 of the U.S. states, but what are nuclear power plants? Nuclear power stations are thermal, which means they get the energy from heat. These power stations heat up and make steam, which turn turbines and conduct electricity. The Palo Verde located in Tonopah Arizona is the largest power plant in the U.S. with three nuclear reactors and averagely gives off 3.3 gigawatts. As fuel, nuclear power plants use uranium which releases high amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when mined.
No one seems to think much about the nuclear power plants in the U.S.- at least, not until there are stories of meltdowns, explosions, and potential attacks on the news. The people behind the power plants can promise less carbon dioxide production through their plants, but they cannot promise there won’t be any accidents dealing with the very same plants. The people behind the nuclear power plants will most likely tell you the energy from these plants is the nation’s best choice- after all, the plants won’t produce CO2, and because of that, they won’t produce air pollution. Unfortunately, some of the people that agree with the idea of setting up more plants don’t consider the risks in the nuclear power, or the fact that renewable sources
In a nuclear power plant, the water in the reactor serves as a coolant for radioactive material. That way it will prevent it from overheating and melting. It produces electricity by boiling water into stream. It also uses uranium fuel. The process called fission for nuclear energy splits atoms of uranium in the reactor.
The only problem is the though of waste and meltdowns there are about 500 coal fire power plants in the united states and with the 70 nuclear power plants they produce about 3 times of what coal power produce and with no pollution. With no carbon emissions this makes air safer to people who would be living in that area around the power plants.
Following a major earthquake, a 15 meter tsunami disabled the power supply and cooling of three Nuclear power plant reactors, causing a nuclear accident on March 11, 2011. All three cores largely melted in the first three days. It released a lot of radioactivity into the area and into the water. I think that by now you can guess the purpose of my speech. Nuclear power and Nuclear power plants.
Although there may be consequences, a power plant should be built because it will be beneficial to the residents. A Nuclear Plant will be efficacious to the residents in many ways. Living in a time that illnesses occur rapidly. A nuclear plant radiation will prevent illnesses from spreading.
Transportation can cause a whole lot of pollution but other types of technology can too such as electricity. Electricity can release carbon dioxide just like transportation which is bad because we already have so much carbon dioxide in the air due to transportation. To make electricity, fossil fuels and nuclear power plants produce harmful gases that can cause a whole lot of damage to the environment. Nuclear power plants use ores to make a great deal of electricity and are very dangerous. Nuclear plants are unstable due to the material they use which unfortunately can cause explosions.
Natural sources of radiation are the cosmic rays and the radioactive substances in the soil and the residues they emit into the air, water and food crops. Human cells in our bodies also contain some natural radiation, in the shape of potassium-40. Diminishing of the ozone provides less protection against the cosmic rays at higher altitudes. Risk of exposure increases with increase in duration. In Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and New Mexico of the United States, residents are receiving significantly more radiation from cosmic rays compared to other states.
At this point in time, the most logical solution to our state’s electricity conundrum seems to be installing a nuclear power plant in East Pennsboro Township. While some citizens have concerns about the safety of the instillation of a nuclear power plant, it appears that our understanding of the security of nuclear power plants has grown greatly. The nation has much experience with accidental happenings at nuclear power plants after the event at Three Mile Island. Additionally, nuclear energy is generally the safest and most potent source of electricity, not to mention its cost-effectiveness and reliability. Nuclear power plants conduct a substantial amount of energy, enough to power the city on an industrial level and bringing power to homes,
