When the nuclei of Uranium-235 and Plutonium-239 undergo nuclear fission, they produce waste as a by-product, which is known as nuclear waste or “fission fragments”. (Leslie Corrice, 2015) This waste contains radioisotopes, which are radioactive isotopes that have long half-lives. This means that the radioisotopes are able to stay in the atmosphere for hundreds of thousands of years, which is extremely hazardous to the earth’s environment. Very commonly this waste contaminates water and ruins the quality of both air and soil, which in turn devastates the planet.
Power plants burn fuel to produce heat to generate energy; however, nuclear power plants use the heat given off fission to turn water into steam. Nuclear energy is without a doubt a great way to power our homes because, Nuclear power plants are safer than other energy alternatives. Nuclear plants are safer than other energy alternatives. Coal is responsible for five times more deaths than nuclear power plants, coal also causes over one thousands more serious causes of illness than nuclear. Nuclear plants produce steam while coal plants, heat water by burning coal that produces greenhouse emissions.
Over 20 percent of the energy in the United States comes from nuclear energy power plants. (Rinkesh, 2018) They so their best to get as much energy to the country as possible, but there are those out there who don’t agree with them. While there are downsides to nuclear energy, the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Nuclear power plants are a great way to get energy because they don’t let out much pollution, are very efficient, and are very safe.

There were 3 reactor core meltdowns, 3 hydrogen explosions that ruptured reactor buildings massive releases of radiation into the air and water, over 150,000 had to flee their homes and many on going environmental hazards
In this day and age we seem to come across one big question where is are next source of power going to come from and for lots of countries out there seem to becoming very dependent on nuclear reactors as a main power source maybe this is because of the high energy output it has or maybe it's because of the high high availability of uranium and plutonium that is needed as the main fuel source for the reactor or it could be a combination of both of these factors. Even though the use of these nuclear reactors as a main source of energy has its benefits, the dangers these nuclear reactors pose are still very great. Accident do occur at these power plants some are small and not so bad and others can be catastrophic and accidents are not the only
In conclusion, Fukushima disaster was the most catastrophic disaster of the decade. The meltdown of the three nuclear reactors caused radiation to be released into the surroundings to this date. Even though the disaster did not cause any casualties at the time, but because of the radiation leak more than 1,232 nuclear related deaths have occurred in the past 4 years. Nuclear related deaths have not occurred directly from radiation but from radiation related diseases like cancer and tumor.
Nuclear Waste on our mother Earth has been a big issue since the start of nuclear production. We have lived several years with this radioactive waste traveling through our soils and farms causing damage to Earth’s nature. Nuclear wastes are normally classified as low, medium or high-level, according to the amount and types of radioactivity they contain. The high-level waste produced by nuclear reactors is the longest lasting contamination risk of a nuclear power plant.
