Dakota was a senior in high school when she turned to Planned Parenthood for birth control. She felt that everyone from the front desk to the doctors welcomed her. Dakota was able to get control over her period cramps and know that if she was going to have sex, she would not get pregnant. She said that if it were not for Planned Parenthood, she would not be the person she is today. (Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc., 2023). Fortunately, Dakota is one of many women around the country that are helped by Planned Parenthood. Planned Parenthood, founded in 1916, is a known healthcare provider, educator, and strong partner to health organizations (Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc., 2023). As an educator and healthcare provider, planned parenthood helps millions of women around the world understand and protect their bodies. They can help women protect their bodies through screenings and prenatal health. In addition, they provide contraceptives to help women practice safe sex. Planned Parenthood’s mission is to ensure all people have access to reproductive care and resources (Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc., 2023). The reproductive care they provide can be anything from monograms to sexual transmitted disease testing. Many people have the misconception that all planned parenthood does is provide abortions but that certainly is not the case. Planned Parenthood also believes that all people of every race, religion, gender, should have the right to determine their own future (Planned Parenthood Federation of America Inc., 2023). With this in mind, future generations now have the chance to determine their own destiny and know they have someone in their corner. Having the ability to rely on someone for reproductive care really gives women an advantage to having a better life.
