The goal is to defund Planned Parenthood for a year which means tax payers would stop paying. They want this to stop because this organization supports abortions and they are responsible for more than 300,000 of them per year in which they receive hundreds of millions tax payer dollars (http://www.focusonthefamily.com/socialissues/promos/defund-planned-parenthood). As I’m thinking about the steps in how a bill becomes a law, there are many factors that can help/hurt it. First off, a bill is introduced by a senator or representative (pg. 195).
For this week assignment I will be discussing marketing effects for a nonprofit. The nonprofit that I chose this week is Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Margaret Sanger started the first Planned Parenthood in Brooklyn in 1916, as America’s first birth control clinic. Planned Parenthood goal is to provide, promote and protect sexual and reproductive through education and health services. Planned Parenthood had a Director of Communication and Marketing.
Planned Parenthood is a program that has been helping people pay for essential procedures without a large fee. It should continue to be covered by the government because of the immense help it has offered people for years. As well as the cost is being funded by Title X which is helping other healthcare organizations across the United States. Planned Parenthood, as well as a negative misconception, is that they only help with abortions. Planned Parenthood helps with anything like educating people about their health.
Lastly, the number of abortions would go up if Planned Parenthood were to be defunded. Planned Parenthood offers more than just abortions, whilst they are a very small part of what Planned Parenthood offers. 42% of what they offer is STI/STD testing and treatment, 34% is contraception, an 11% is other women’s health services, 9% being cancer screening and prevention, then abortion at a small 3% of what they offer, while 1% is other services. The most recent controversy in the news today is the proposal by the Republican Party to defund Planned Parenthood for one year, which is expected to fail, which could shut down the government. President Obama and Senate Democrats are willing to shut down the federal government to ensure that tax dollars keep flowing to the Planned Parenthood organization, one of their biggest political allies and financial contributor of millions of dollars to the Democratic Presidential campaign and Party. Lobbyist who works for the Planned Parenthood
Like every other policy there are pros and cons to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and the officials elected by the people of the United States will have to work together to find a compromise for the country. Most people against the Planned Parenthood Action fund are pro-life and mostly just against abortion, but even if Planned Parenthood Federation of America was defunded, abortions would still be legal and still performed, but maybe even more without the free provision of birth control. The only way to stop abortion is to make it illegal, not by defunding Planned Parenthood. Maybe Republican politicians like Carly Fiorina or Ted Cruz will be able to defund Planned Parenthood Federation of America in the upcoming years, but maybe the democrats will once again block their attempts and keep The Planned Parenthood Action Fund
This recent controversy has raised questions concerning the ethicality and legality of fetal tissue donations and research. It has also spurred debate over the government’s role in funding and authorizing clinics like Planned Parenthood, especially given the ideologically divise nature of the services it performs. As a result of this controversy, advocates and legislators are pushing for changes in federal policy, particularly changes that will defund or significantly reduce funding for Planned Parenthood. Such action could have significant effects on the conduction of scientific research, women’s rights, and women’s access to affordable and accessible health care nationwide. This paper examines the recent Planned Parenthood/fetal tissue research
Hello Mr. Loa, When I originally chose my topic for writing project two, i was stuck between the effects Barbie has on our self-esteem and the federal funding of Planned Parenthood. I chose the topic about Barbie because I figured no one else would do it and it wouldn 't be redundant, but because it is such a unique topic, I 'm having trouble finding articles on it. Would it be okay if I changed my topic to Planned Parenthood, which had ample articles on it? And if I am allowed to change it, would I have to send you another topic proposal memo? Samantha

I'm totally against abortion, having to do with Planned Parenthood. But millions and millions of women -- cervical cancer, breast cancer -- are helped by Planned Parenthood. So you can say whatever you want, but they have millions of women going through Planned Parenthood that are helped greatly. And I wouldn't fund it. I would defund it because of the abortion factor, which they say is 3 percent.
Donald Trump believes, “‘banning all federal taxpayer funding of abortions will save the lives of over one million Americans from abortions’”(Steven). This statement is false and inaccurate. Instead of those women going and getting an abortion safely carried out at Planned Parenthood, she will go get an abortion in a more dangerous way ultimately putting her life at risk too, which will lead to higher deaths. As Taylor Jacobs said in the article on the Odyssey online, “ Regardless of your personal opinions regarding abortions, it is not possible to stop every woman from getting the procedure if they are unprepared to have a child, no matter what programs are defunded. Thousands of women die from unsafe abortions per year and defunding Planned Parenthood would make getting an abortion even more difficult and likely increase the numbers of deaths.”
