Pro Death Penalty – A Society Of Strength The death penalty has served society as a constant reminder to would-be criminals in the prevention of heinous crimes. Society relies on a justice system to protect and maintain morale balance by carrying out punishments in kind. The death penalty has come under critical examination in recent times due to opposing views suggesting that it is an irrevocable sentence on innocent lives, but with increased safeguards and appeals the occurrence is very rare. “There are at least 28 procedures necessary in reaching a death sentence. These 28 procedures represent the broad categories of defendant and inmate protections” (Sharp para. E). The death penalty should be administered because it serves retribution to the victims and their families, it deters future crimes, and its society’s moral obligation to protect human life. …show more content…

The Senate Judiciary Committee has previously found this risk to be “minimal,” a view shared by numerous scholars.” (Cassell) The same could be said about the innocent inmates that were wrongfully convicted and are serving life without parole. Claims of innocence are almost always nothing more than postponing strategies to prolong the execution for as long as possible. The danger of discharging a guilty murderer on claims of innocence should be a greater concern than that of a risk of the mistaken execution of an innocent
