According to Legal, “Recidivism means the arrest, reconviction, or incarceration of former inmates”. “Recidivism is the critical outcome variable in corrections, but assessing recidivism is a very complex measurement problem” (Legal, 2016). Recidivism is extremely important to the relation of rehabilitation, and to the reintegration of offenders into society. Recidivism is the act of a person repeating them self, after they have already experienced consequences to that particular behavior. A lot of times recidivism is directly related to the behavior of a sex offender. Sex offenders have a high rate of recidivism, and are often known to commit more sexual offences, after being released from prison. Pros for the three-strike laws are designed to keep those more likely to commit a crime in the general public. Meaning, if that criminal believes that they're going to face life in prison, they will change their lifestyle and will be less likely to commit a crime. This law also would affect crime rates, by placing fear among those who are considering committing a crime. Furthermore, this would give normal day to day citizens peace of mind knowing these criminals are locked away in prison. Cons of the three strike laws would be a potential for unfair practices. Meaning, criminals who were prosecuted three times for petty offences, such as shoplifting and robbery are likely to suffer the same fate as those who commit a felony. Furthermore, budgeting is also an issue, as more and more people are sent to prison, the higher the budget for police increases. Finally, higher prison cost would also be affected. The more people that are incarcerated would cause more prisons to be maintained, more criminals to feed and
