“Is the American Jury System Still a Good Idea?”
Is the American Jury System Still a good idea? That is a long and complicated questions that could take years to answer. Many people say that it is good because it give the people the right to choose and the right to self government. Another reason I don’t like a jury is because jury’s send more people to jail then a bench jury which makes it so the people that did the crime do the time. There are people also that are against having a jury because the are influenced by media and the isn’t always right. They also say that the people on the jury don’t focus and only think about things they want to not the case that they are listening to. The position …show more content…

I believe that the jury system in the United States of America should be eliminated because it harder to get people that are un-basis, people don’t pay attention in court, and a bench judge is the best option for the people.
The american jury system is not as good as it once was in the early years. People then didn’t have the problems with the media turning people's minds. This is because back then it took months for one piece of news to get to the people in that state and the case would be over by then. In “Document D” this is conveyed really well. In “Document D it says “Do you mean to tell me that in Florida you can kill your child, toss her on the side of the road and go free?” What she said to the news was a basis opinion. That the media portrayed to her. This is because she wasn’t involved in the case at all, and the only place she was able to get the …show more content…

This is because they all think of what is shown on tv as what really happens in court, but this isn’t true. So when they get there( to the courthouse) and they see that it is boring and they tune out and start to think about what they want, not the case. This action is represented in “Document E” it shows people on the jury and only 6 of them are thinking a about the case. One of the people on the jury is thinking about music which is means they are useless to the case and will not help in decided weather this person goes to jail or gets to see their family again. This is very immature because this is your job as a citizen to do this one small task. If this was one of their real jobs most of them would be fired after day one because they don’t pay attention. One of the other jurors is thinking about money. This is a person's life and all they can think about is how much they are getting paid to be here, that is ridiculous. This is a problem that needs to be solved. The solution to this problem in my opinion is to use the jury system less than before. This means that the bench trail will have to be used more. In “Document E” source 2 says “We, the Jury, find the defendant to be as guilty as he looks.” This means that the jury in this case found the defendant guilty because he looked guilty, not because the defendant was guilty. The actions by the jury will cause a man to go to jail because he looks like he did
