What do you classify as cruel? Abusing animals, abusing people, or maybe murdering someone in cold blood? Would you classify the death penalty as cruel? Not all states have the death penalty, for instance Michigan doesn’t have the death penalty, but Texas does. The death penalty is a state law, so every state's opinion on the death penalty is different. There are five different ways a person can be executed, there is lethal injection, electrocution, lethal gas, firing squad, and hanging (“Methods of Execution”). The death penalty can be very controversial, some of the pro death penalty people believe that the penalty works because it’s following Hammurabi’s code, which is of an eye for an eye. So, if someone murdered another person that person’s life should be taken in return. But, the people who are against the death penalty say that the penalty is inhumane and the people in jail are suffering more than the people on death row.
