High school sports are a very important part of our school, promoting not only good physical health, but encouraging athletes to find success in other areas of their life as well. As a school, we should want our sports teams to push to be the best they can be, which leads to the question how will our sports teams improve if they all aren’t funded equally? Unequal funding for our sports teams today is unfair because no sport is more or less important than the other, funding for the sports shouldn’t depend on the popularity of the sport, sports with better equipment are able to perform better, and those without good equipment are set up for failure, and giving less money to some sports tells the athletes …show more content…

In the article The Charge, it states that “Schools will sometimes unfairly give more money to these types of sports due to the economic boost it will give to them.” Just because some sports get more support from student peers than other sports doesn’t make that sport more important than the others. No sport and its athletes should feel like they are more or less important than others. Smaller teams that have less athletes may not get as much support from people because of their size of team, but this doesn’t mean that they should be put at a disadvantage with bad equipment or coaching due to lack of funding for their team. They also shouldn’t have to worry about feeling left out or excluded from the school community due to the biased unequal funding for their sport. Students and athletes have the right to be able to pursue any sport that they are passionate about without having to worry about any of these factors. This means providing these teams with resources based on the need for them rather than their popularity or past successes. Equal funding would not only improve the quality of the team, but also push athletes to push themselves more than ever, and reach their full potential.
