Prosecuting Romeo
I, Jackson L. Weiss as Prosecutor of Summit County, Ohio, do charge Romeo Montague with voluntary manslaughter for the death of Tybalt Capulet and involuntary manslaughter for the death of Count Paris.
The death of Tybalt Capulet was quite the tragedy as he was such a young man and had so much to live for. Romeo Montague will step up and take responsibility for the actions he has caused. He will be charged with voluntary manslaughter. Romeo will be charged with this due to the fact that he did in fact murder Tybalt from the influence of sudden passion and sudden rage due to the death of Mercutio earlier in the day. He took Count Paris’ life just two days after he murder Tybalt Capulet. The circumstances of this murder differs from the first case. Romeo Montague will receive the homicide charge of Involuntary manslaughter for the death of Count Paris. The evidence shows that Romeo killed Count Paris out of self defense during a sword duel near the Capulet vault. Romeo struck Count dead, but had no real motive for the murder. At least this is what Balthazar, a friend of Romeo, stated since he witness the murder as he was watching behind a tree since Romeo told him to run off once they got to the graveyard. Balthazar states that Count Paris was the one who aggravated the fight. He stated that Count said, “I refuse your appeal, and I arrest you as a criminal here!” Then Romeo said, “ Will you provoke me? Then have at it, boy!” The Balthazar stated, “They quarreled, and Romeo would not go down without a fight. So Count drew his weapon and started to attack Romeo. Romeo, out of self defense, had no choice but to draw his sword and defend himself from Count trying to take his life”. Therefore, from evidence of Count Paris’ death and a key eye witness, Romeo Montague will be charged with involuntary manslaughter. I have evaluated this case very carefully and decided this homicide charge is appropriate due to the fact that Romeo was acting out of self defense, to protect his life, rather than let Count Paris take his
