The King James Version of the Bible became a fundamental part of British Literature. This work of literature greatly influences other works, primarily in love poetry, since it contains many ideas of what love looks like. Love poems portray many types of love that the Bible refers to. These different types of love often get misinterpreted and their attributes often get confused. While both 1 Corinthians 13 and Psalms 116 defines love, one describes God 's love and the other focuses on one 's love for God. Psalms 116 and 1 Corinthians 13 both describe authentic love from the heart. These chapters embody "the supremacy of love," meaning that love encompasses many wonderful feelings (Guzik). The way one can demonstrate love provides a way to connect with others on a deep emotional level. Both chapters also describe several attributes of God 's love. 1 Corinthians 13 focuses on this love throughout the whole chapter and Psalms 116 discusses God 's love in saying it feels kind and comforting (King James Version Bible, Psalms 116:3). Agape love shows itself in humility and kindness (King James Version Bible, 1 Corinthians 13:4). This kindness comes from wanting to care and making a recurring choice to act upon caring. Another way to look at agape love, as the apostles looked at it, "is an attitude of the heart, of the mind and of the will" (Davidson 986). Culture should no longer see love only as a feeling, but a feeling along with continuous thoughtful actions. Agape love can also be seen as self-denial for the sake of another (Guzik).
