Week Five Devotional An acronym for Bible is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. The Bible is our manual for living and dealing with life on life’s terms. Because we are saved does not mean we will not face persecutions, adversity, hardships, or offenses. On the contrary, Jesus makes it clear that we are going to be persecuted, and told us in John 15:20b, “If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” Apostle James in his letter tells us to “count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations (James 1:2).
During the reading of chapter 1 by Brenda Combs I became tearful with her story of how the circumstances in her life changed by imploring help from the Lord to heal her from her addictions and homelessness. After she took her decision of staying positive, and setting up goals, and with determination that she and her son deserved more than a simple paycheck. Those thoughts were her inspiration for improvement, and working very hard in her dreams without giving up. The poem she wrote for her son inspired me to work harder and continue working with love and respect for self and others as always do and being an example for my daughter. With this article I was able to identify many of my areas that I have to work- on and also I was able to identify

The album consists of eleven songs, all of which are covers of tracks originally created by some of Canada’s best musicians. Gotta Keep Dancin’ by Tim Hansel was a deep reading. Within the pages I found a guide to being self-assured in God. This self-assurance is counter cultural and difficult to replicate in our lives. Because of this I often questioned why I attempt, or do not try to overcome life. Life does not need to be overcome.
Multiple times he is thankful for the simplest things that life has to offer such as to “arise in the morning”, and the “joy of living”. He emphasizes the aspect of cherishing everything that life has given even if they are ordinary and do not impact us. This connects to me as it conveys the message that one’s life has been granted many privileges, whether tangible or intangible, and one should treasure them deeply before their presences are gone. As it will then be too late and we will regret not truly valuing them.
More specifically, in the religious text “Psalms” many people look towards God to aid them in their hardship. Breugmann asserts that this call for help is segmented in four sections: the address, complaint, an ask, and a promise. In order to dive deeper in this ideology of how people in Psalms seeked sanctuary in their own turmoil, we will be analyzing Psalm 22. Before getting into any specific analysis of what makes up the Psalm 22 sense of disorientation, it’s crucial to determine why the speaker is
In her article, “The Perils and Promise of Praise,” Carol S. Dweck discusses the outcome of different types of praise has on students’ motivation and ability to learn. She reveals the parallel between praise and students’ opinions on their intelligence. The author writes about two kinds of students, those who think their intelligence is not able to be increased, and those who recognize that their intelligence can be developed. Dweck also writes on how psychology and neuroscience support the student that believes they can strengthen their cognitive skills. She states that, through research in these areas, we’re can see that our minds are able to grow and mold if we initiate it.
It 's just me and my Father this Sunday as we drive the ten miles into town with me pouting in the back seat. I was always a stubborn child who fought going to church because I found myself being bored and antsy for that hour and a half. I remember my father looking over to me, patient as ever and explaining as best as you can to a child why attending church was so important. He said, we have a lot of things to be grateful to God for like how we have food to eat, a house to live in, and a family that we love. I sat and thought about that all through church and was in awe of my father’s love for God.
Growth or Fixed Mindset In Carol Dweck’s article “The Perils of Praise and Promise” she explains the difference between a growth and fixed mind-set. Dweck says” In a fixed mind-set, students care first and foremost about how they will be judged; smart or not smart. Repeatedly students with this mind-set reject opportunities to learn if they might make mistakes.
Ancient Greek Cultural Concepts in The Odyssey Although different cultures vary from each other in their cultural concepts, one sees that the concepts exemplified in The Odyssey are such that many today may find bizarre. However, these ideals were firmly followed in ancient Greece. Homer successfully illustrates the important cultural concepts of xenia, mêtis and piety in his book through the characters’ dialogue, actions, and behaviors. One of the most significant Greek cultural ideals seen in The Odyssey would be xenia, the concept of hospitality.
Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning” (English Standard Version). This shows that God can help in any moment of somebody’s life. He can change everything in the blink of an eye. The Bible talking about Depression is good for
Literal sense: In Psalm 22, someone cries out to God and pleads for Him to save him from torments of his enemies. Progressively through the passage, he changes his tone. It goes from angry and negative to positive. He then thanks God for rescuing him.
Leading a human life is a full-time occupation, to which everyone devotes decades of intense concern.” (Nagel, 719) Nagel also argues that we all reflect about whether life is worth it or not. To avoid this this absurdity, we try to give meaning to our lives through what we do “seeking fulfillment in service to society, the state, the revolution, the progress of history, the advance of science, or religion and the glory of God.” (Nagel, 720) But this leads to the conflict that if this thing that gives meaning to our life, it must be significant.
As a result, I struggled to focus on my studies and my depressive state led me to question the point of learning. This viewpoint was later eradicated when I realized I should be learning despite my struggles. Consequently, Lewis’ sermon explains what I had discerned, that it isn’t healthy to quit studying during hardships because God makes us knowledgeable, and to utilize our minds is to glorify
“The deep truth is that our human suffering need not be an obstacle to the joy and peace we so desire, but can become, instead, the means to it. The great secret of the spiritual life, the life of the Beloved Sons and daughters of God, is that everything we live, be it gladness or sadness, joy or pain, health or illness, can all be part of the journey toward the full realization of our humanity” Henri
